I suspect that this supposed epidemic of truck fires is caused primarily by media corporations, access to the Internet, cell phone cameras, and just the general accessibility of news and information that we have today.

Trucks can burn for all kinds of reasons, this is a dangerous profession and we all know it. There will also always be idiots in every profession, and I'm obviously referring to the ones which overload the wires inside of truck, cut others off, as well as other stupid behavior we all know is unsafe.

Inverters are safe when used properly and one wired properly. That's not to say that one couldn't fail for any reason and cause a fire. It's a man-made item and by default, #### happens.

Those of us with more experience in the industry undoubtedly have seen far more truck fires. However, if you look at the total number of trucks you see in a truckstop and compare it with the number of truck fires potentially caused by inverters or overloaded wiring I would have to guess that it is less than 1%.

Can they be a risk? sure! But so was going to bed every night.

I think the industry has a lot more to worry about than the inverters that just about every driver uses. Just my two cents.

That's because the truck is on fire, not the roof.

you got to be kidding truck stop food is deplorable and expensive, Why do drivers criticize other drivers for wanting to ease some of the loss of being away from home? you act like he asked to rape a baby or something I can go with it or without it they didn't even have that many microwaves or portable fridges when I started in the early 80's
as a retired Marine what you said is what happened to our Honorable Veterans in Vietnam when they ask to just feel human,Lighten up, We can all dream this is America!!!!!!!!!:(

I remember when drivers talked about drivers that wanted air conditioning, power steering and air ride, even when in the 80's 25 cents a mile was good pay,Hell if they could get away with it and the drivers would still work most companies would get rid of those items to increase profits your DM has a break room ,can go out for lunch etc., These companies say they care for the drivers i heard this crap back in the 60-70's they only care about profit. if drivers would stick together conditions could be better as well as pay! We are the new slaves not valued or respected. some people said when didn't need in door toilet too at one time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    what the op stated....

why do companies have to provide these things?

nothing has to be standard, not even an AM/FM radio. not even CB radio connections, get it..?? nothing has to be standard.

those companies that DO provide "some" of the amenities, are surely the ones to want to work for, but then how many miles per week does the driver get..?? how much per mile..??

    nothing has to be standard....period.

and for the record, I never had a bad meal at a truck stop. you don't even want to go OTR, so why would you be so concerned about any of this...?????

I am a southern boy and most all southern women can cook and we southerners know good food and the truck stops aren't it! you probably would think c rations were a delectable. And your'e right that's why I don't wont to go over the road its like being a POW trust me I know what that's like! and would you still drive without air conditioning or power steering sure they don;t have to but they should and for as a radio they can take that out I don't listen to the radio or CB! and here goes the same excuse the big companies is promoting they pay less and you get less miles, come on that would be stupid.you just hate progress the younger breed of truckers will demand those things things will change if not now later! I am not one of those people to just go along because that's how its always been done! look I know you sound like a good guy but if we demand these and other things to make our work better eventually those things will be standard

Where does everyone get this dumb idea that we HAVE to eat at truck stops...?

There's some good food out there if you're willing to look for it. No, it's not as good as home cooking but there isn't much that could top that unless home is full of terrible cooks.

Little time, planning and effort and there's not much you can't make on the road.

...unless you're going to ask for homemade portobello, feta and spinach stuffed pasta, paired with a white creme sauce and balsamic reduction plus a side of white Zinfandel to go with it... In that case I'll have to ask you to go back to the non-trucking side of the world.
