I did not assume, I said "I think" and "sorry if I'm wrong".
If you are fired for a single ticket - even 20 over - then you were unfairly treated and if that is really all that is on your record, you will have no problem getting rehired.

I have maintained a perfect record for 11 years; not because I am perfect - it is partly luck. I have been pulled over for running a red light, speeding in a school zone and called into the scale house for over weight. Police always let me go. The sincere line: "I apologize, I did not do it on purpose; I just did not see the school speed zone sign. I got a perfect record officer, I am disappointed to lose it" - that is a pretty good line. Officers typically give tickets to deter drivers from driving unsafely in the future. When they see you are not a person needing deterrence, they are sympathetic.

Having a perfect record therefore helps you keep a perfect record. Most drivers get a ticket or an accident every year and many do not respect authority. There is a snowball effect. Anyway, it all washes clean in 3 years and even the worst violations go away in 7.

Dishonesty and disrespecting the function and purpose of another's vocation may seem expedient but it costs more than money to think and act that way. Truth is holy and we abuse what is holy at great cost, eventually.
Please think before sneering at the idea; it is not my idea, it is a very old and durable idea.

What are you calling my act of dishonesty and which function and purpose of another's vocation am I disrespecting? I was a professional truck driver for 28 years until I retired from it. What Truth am I abusing? Because being a professional was important to me I rejected the idea that dressing like a hobo and smelling like a dead skunk was acceptable, necessary, or required to do the job. I got dirty and I got cleaned up. I grew up poor and moved around a lot. Both taught me to look at what is going on and how very different people choose to behave. Poor people make many poor choices and often prefer to remain poor than change their behavior and be less poor. Nobody has to be dirty, rude, filthy, vulgar, etc to be a truck driver but unlike many other jobs behaving in that way won't stop you from driving trucks for a living. Behaving that way will also not make your life easier, just dirty, rude, filthy, vulgar etc. I've only met a tiny number of people from this forum in real life. I'm not making assumptions about who people are except drawing a conclusion about what they write and my experience in similar situations and when dealing with the people I dealt with in the industry over the years.

Speeding is seldom necessary, traffic conditions rarely allow one to speed for long enough to make any practical difference, but every moment of speeding is risking a speeding ticket or wasting lots of money that must be spent on expensive electronics for a false-sense of protection from speeding tickets or expensive fees to reduce the harm of getting caught speeding. Some people simply go through life with an irrational determination to break rules, just because there are rules. Later they make excuses or claim if the rules had been different they wouldn't have to break the rules. Excuse making and defiance are sometimes a personality trait or maybe just a long-term habit. Any person can CHOOSE to have different habits. Choose wisely, it's often less expensive and less troublesome.

People take each other too seriously on line. It is just a thought I put out, and not even my own - take it up with Buddha, Jesus and Socrates if you disagree. Me, I am sold on the idea.
