Have you already been through CDL school and have your CDL? Because that is the first step.. actually, the first step is to look at your MVR how clean is it? if you have tickets and stuff on your MVR keep in mind that schools will accept you and you can get a CDL, but will find it difficult to get on with many companies.. So, first just check out several companies that you may be interested in, check out their websites.. and make sure you hireable to many companies.. if you are then decide about your CDL school.. generally, private schools are a better than company schools, but cost more.. however, many companies offer tuition reinbursement...

The most important thing.. is to research, soul search and make a very thought out and informed decision... many people jump in too fast and just get chewed up and spat out..

and, do not jump in broke.. you will need time and money.. it is too stressful for those who jump in broke and realize they cant pay their bills and they have no money for food and stuff on the road... Just take your time and set yourself up to succeed.. and know the road will be bumpy at times...

I am new to the forum. Been lurking a while. Looking to do the same thing. Have Contacted Central Tech School in Drumright. Look to have a good reputation and job placement. Decent price $3,000 and have to obtain CDL Permit to start. Have also chatted with recruiters from TMC and Maverick as I am interested in flatbedding. They seem to be decent starter companies, if not more. There are other options too. Redlands in EL Reno, but they are expensive and longer. Caddo Kiowa which I believe is near Ft Cobb is another option.

TMC says 46 of 52 weekends home. Talked to a driver at Home Depot last week and he says pretty much how it works for him. He laso said they have some new trucks and more coming supposedly. Maverick has good equipment but not as much home time.

    Good Luck!!

Hey guys I am new flatbed driver( 3rd day with trainer new) from OK. I went to central tech in drumright and the rumors are right, recruiters know it is a good school. The price is excellent and if you are veteran is $250 less.
883 is right, make sure you are employable in this industry before jumping in. That means a decent MVR, decent work history, minimal handcuff experience, no drug issues. If any of these is bad you may have to start with a 3rd rate company.

Melton. They have good rep and are HQ'd 15 miles from me so it was easy.
There was icy weather during the 2 recruiter days so less than half the recruiters made it to CT. None of the bottom feeders were there, suprisingly. Pacer oilfield made a good presentation, Conway was there, so was Tyson. These look like good companies if you like what they do. But typically, it seems like CT has good relations with Melton(CT helps train Melton trainers), TMC, Boyd Bros, and some other van companies but I wasnt paying much attention to other than flatbed.
This is oklahoma so oilfield jobs are everywhere if that is your thing.
