If my crime had been a month or so later, I would have had probation and maybe more time to boot. A little silver lining.

Never thought it would be easy but I might actually like it anyway. It's not just the trucking industry, all wages lag inflation now; I can tell every week when we go grocery shopping.

One of my instructors at school talked about hiring me on, he's one of those but he leased on to a bigger company in the end. The other guy trying to hire me is the same. Another instructor told me of a small outfit but I haven't heard back yet.

Sent a Private Message to you; check your PM's.

Another thing to guys with criminal records; if a company application says, for example, "No felonies within 5 years", or "experience required", ignore it and apply anyway, but still be accurate and honest on the application. The worst that can happen is "application denied."

In response, yes most all companies do background checks and yes the apps ask have you been convicted in such an amount of time. Really gray area to say the least it will come out so its a choice to make it upfront or not.. He'll I have a long list of misdo convictions but what hurts me is two drug charges going on 18yrs now there are not many options in my world. Keep your head up and stay strong sounds like you got a good support group in your family. Never give up

Been lurkin these boards for a bit, finally made an account

I'm kinda in the same boat as the op since i have a possession of weed with intent felony from 1997. I've been getting denied $8hr. temp jobs because of it and it's tough to get work. The cdl paper mill/school I'm attending said I would be fine since it's old, but this thread has me worried. If anybody has a list of companies that would work me, please pm me or list a few. Any help is greatly appreciated.

After reading through this thread, my anxiety level is elevated. I did just get off the phone with the tsa hazmat call center and the guy says I should be able to get that endorsement because the charge is old. Hopefully that helps because all the better companies seem to want hazmat drivers.

thanks for the pm, it will help a lot

Good luck with carolina...but remember even if you have to work your 'local in' for a lower wage, you are still getting experience and an employment reference to help out later

No offense meant but you were charged with and convicted of murder and you think you were screwed? You haven't denied the crime. Whether you did or not remains unclear. Did you participate in a murder? Could you have prevented it? Did your actions or inactions result in a life being lost? The one thing that does seem certain is at least one person will not go home to their family or be able to hop on a forum to seek employment advice.

With that said most of us are truckers which means we have 10 hours and sometimes 34 hours to kill. We have time for the story. Please tell so we can determine if you really "had the screws put to you"

I believe in second chances so I wish you luck in seeking employment! Its tough out there now and to echo other posts, its going to be an uphill battle!
