Well, I just a good chunk of time answering your question a few hours ago, it seems to be gone.
What companies would give an ex-felon a chance to prove themselves?

Not exactly sure where you're coming from though. You say you're for second chances, but then you want me to tell the story so you and others can make judgment. Really, I have a hard time talking about the story to people I know and love much more to random people on an internet chat board. It still bothers me 17 years later. Why would you want to hear something like this? Because you have time to kill? I'm well aware of any and all wrong I did, I am tougher on myself than anyone else I know. But I know when to let go: if I hadn't let go by now, I'd hate to see what I would have become instead, and that would include being a burden to society at best and harmful to society at worst. I had to learn that everyone, absolutely everyone can become better, it all depends on how bad they want it because it's not easy, depending on where you start, it can be a mountain. Everyone is worth it, even the people I don't particularly like, especially those people for my own sake. I have no place to condemn, I can only point out if they are messing up and try and help them if I can. Nothing can be personal anymore, I don't have time for that. Nobody has to please me either, they don't have to pass my muster because in the end, I'm just a guy who puts his pants on like everybody else. Only thing now is I have people who depend on me, in more ways than one, so it's not even about me anymore.
I have to eat breakfast, then go shopping, then pick up a mattress for guests then do other chores and maybe, just maybe I'll sit on my butt tonight and enjoy the people around me. Good enough for me. -

Stay away from the mega carriers, I have a buddy who did 3 yrs. for 1st degree assault and he got a job with a pretty good co. 2 months after he got out, but he had over 10 yrs. experience when he got locked up. So try the mom & pop companies. Good luck !

So Ive come up with this idea of changing my name to johnny outlaw, that way they dont even have to bother with a background check, they see that kind of name and it pretty much tell's them from the get go, if they proceed with the application, great, if not screw them. For you folk's that want to hold people with record's back, well that's ok to. If it get's to the point I cant find employment because of my record, Il just start robbing and selling dope, Il do whatever I want because it wont matter much, oppressed freedom is the same thing as incarceration, except incarceration is a hell of alot easier. But lets hope it dont come to that, so far even with 3 felonies I get just as many job offer's as I do refusal's.

Thank's roadtrain. I knew they were working on something, I believe bullhauler's wife posted an article a few month's ago but dont know if this was the one. While it's a good thing the problom is getting some attention I dont believe it will make any difference. It would be mighty hard for an applicant to prove discremination. The company would pretty much have to openely admit they discriminated against an applicant due to a criminal record, and well you and me both know that would never happen. I have burglary related felonies and there looked as there theft related, when in fact I dont have a theft charge at all, burglary doesnt mean you stole something, it could be associated with property damage, or just needing a warm place to sleep on a cold night. In my case, it was an accuantices place that had my belonging's and I did break in to get my property back, that's why I wasnt charged with theft or property damage, I only took what was mine, but companies and insurance dont care, they see what's on paper, and that's all that matter's

The true solution would be for the government to somewhat seal record's after a certain amount of time, so as long as the person keep's there nose clean and no longer is a threat to society. Other countries do it and it work's great. Now, some charges should never be sealed, those that are sex, violent, and so on, and record's are still open for the court's, government agencies and such, but not just readily available. Another thing is all constitutional right's are fully restored after this time limit has been reached successfully. I have the right to vote, but that's it. I dont have any violent or weapon's related crimes or arrest in my history, yet Im banned for life from legally owning a firearm, which is total #########, and need's to change. The government is only taking interest in this because the amount of "2nd class" citizen's is so high it's causing major problom's to society, unemployment and such, but unless they take some drastic serious measure's it's only gonna get worse. This countries number of felon's outnumber's both military and law enforcement combined, scary thought if you think about it. And anyone who has served time know's, it only takes one single person to set #### off and for thing's to get ugly quick.

I know you were joking, but this mentality is exactly why felons don't deserve a 2nd chance. -
Um, Im already a driver. There's a huge coprehension problom with peoples reading ability. No, Im not joking in the leaste bit, my word's are more of a warning than a threat. That's why felon's dont deserve a 2nd chance is exactly the reason I said what I did. You and your type are creating a huge class of 2nd class citizen's and oppressing the #### out of them, what do you think is going to happen?? You do the crime then the time, anything past that is unconstitutional and cruel and unusual punishment, you can disagree with that all you want, but if you were in our shoe's, you would agree till your blua in the face. So here's the choices, we do our time, get released. Let us work and try to be productive citizen's, or, keep discriminating against us and making life impossible to live, then we return to crime, get thrown back in the system at a cost of 30-40k a year which tax payer's will pay. Which sound's better to you?
kwikk9 Thanks this.
