Hey everyone I just got my CDL A in Denver Co. I have driven for a few companies as a taxi driver and shuttle driver but have never gone over the road. OTR seems perfect for me because I do not have a wife or kids and can really live in the truck and make it my life. I know there are a lot of companies to consider but I would really value the opinion of other experienced drivers as to what companies they like and why. Thanks for your input.

Watkins Shepard is a good choice. They are mid sized, lots of freight and their drivers really like them. You will not find much (if any) negative info on them. I have heard good things about JBS out of Greeley also. I know someone who just started with JBS and I can put you together if you would like to talk to him.

I agree, I do not work for either company and never personally researched JBS as they have a "no pet" policy. I just have two friends who drive for them and are happy.

As an aside, It does not seem the problem can be that bad if the fine is only $81,000?? Your thoughts? I am not minimizing the severity of their actions, just wondering how pervasive it can be for that low of a fine.

You're in Denver. There's a VERY busy Pilot truck stop on I-70 just east of downtown. Go there and talk to some drivers face to face. You can get some good info that way. Here's my short list however.

    Crete Carriers
    Con-Way Truckload
    May Trucking
    Watkins Shepard
    Roehl
    Schneider

    If you want flatbed

    Maverick
    TMC
    Melton
    Roehl
    BTC

Not sure if they all hire out of your area but use that phone and you can find out first hand.

    Good luck.

Oh, and whatever you do, DON'T sign up for any lease deal with any company until you have a good year or two on the road.

    matherin Thanks this.
