Before even considering a carrier to apply with, check their CSA score ratings at the FMCSA website. http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms/Data/Search.aspx
For instance, CR England is one to stay away from. They are rapidly making themselves a real target.

Thanks for posting this information, this will help do a little more extensive research before I go off to CDL school. -
I too, am in a similar situation. If this helps I made a list of questions to ask recruiters from twelve companies:
Length of orientation, location?
Orientation expenses?
Length of training?
Pay in orientation?
Pay in training?
If trainer has a disagreeable personality, can he be replaced?
Time to go home after training to outfit truck?
Immediate benefits?
Solo pay?
Home time?
Idle free in trucks?
Foul weather/ freight wait pay?
Paper or E logs?
Requirements to be a trainer?
I made a sheet for each company. So far I've spoken to Prime. Today I intend to contact more. Once finished I'll compare my results and see which one best fits my needs. I hope to post the results here for others to use in the future. -
