It's probably not much to look at but it will get the job done. hey as long as you're in the game that's what counts and you can always buy a nicer one later when you have more money to play with. I agree you can find some bargains out there if you hunt around. I think pretty soon there will be a LOT of bargains after the economy tanks.

Are they requiring you to run an eld on it. What I heard is that any new hires had to run eld, if so I suppose they want a guy to have at least a new enough truck to be able to hook one too.

If I were do to OTR. I think I'd want a 7 mpg aero truck over a 4 mpg non aero hood.

On the other side of the coin. I"m a little weary of an older truck. You can do all the maint you want. But you can't stop the truck from literally falling apart.

Fiberglass and plastic breaks down just like anything else.

And when it comes to the officer or leo. I'd like to at least have a little pride in my ride. Not some raggety truck. That's going to get you harrased more then a decent looking ride.

My instructor taught me that people with a cluttered dash get inspected more then a clean dash. I would imagine that the same would hold true for the truck itself.

I have yet to figure out why drivers do that. Or how they can even find anything.
I had one trip at a time on the seat. And when delivered. In the envelope. And everything was always turned in weekly. I never had anything to pile on my dash.

You can put a 99 motor in any truck and be exempt, just like a glider

If you look at anything with a Cummins ISX, earlier versions were a DOHC set with a lower pressure fuel system that is run off the 2nd camshaft. They had a designation of CM870 and CM871. The later versions were a SOHC with high pressure fuel system that is less reliable than the earlier version. It also had some other issues, being they were emissions system equipped, had liners that sink (dealing with this right now), some camshaft issues iirc. The egr will also cause some soot buildup in the cyl's.

Your best bet is to find something that is pre-dpf, but not neccesarily pre eld. Something that has a good documented maintenance history.

Thats news to me. I talked to them about a yr. ago. Trying to stay closer to home anyway..
