There are no stupid questions, only stupid mistakes. You can always tighten up from a open radius but recovering from a tight radius is much harder. That's why it's important to not over steer while backing. Expecially with combinations.

Krogers are notorious for setting up their docks with walls on one side that aren't square to the bldg, creates and awesome optical illusion for backing, combine that with no lines on the ground half the time. I used to have a couple on my old route that were always a couple pull ups to get in, there was just no getting used to it.

Wrong question. The correct question would be what can he do to make the most money being new, THEN go make it. When your new everything is hard. Especially when your in a line of other trucks that are trying to get in and out like a machine and your more concerned with them watching you screw up the back completely and looking stupid, as we all did! I went city driver right out of school, all my backs were supermarkets in city areas ,parking lots that you have to blindsided back while taking out traffic to do it, residential areas, all the worst stuff for a shiny new license, it made me get good real quick. Don't assume docks are always easy, hardest place I ever used to back was the Ace Hardware DC in Chesapeake (I think) VA. Huge place, 50 doors on each side, usually only a couple trucks around at any given time. Just door #'s and no lines on the ground, used to miss my door 3/4 times every time trying to hit them. Put me at a supermarket with 3 doors and trucks in 2 of them off a busy sidestreet and I'll back in so fast it's stupid and hit it every time. Sometimes what you think is easy is hard and the other way around.

Whenever I had to get into a dock with no lines or point of reference I would set, then GOAL and make my own points of reference. At night a cheap LED made a good pivot point and maybe some lights on the dock.

In the daytime a rock or flattened can will do. My brother turned me on to carrying a can of foam "paint", the kind used by soccer referees to temporarily mark a line for players to stand behind.

The worst is when customers or truckstops can't paint straight lines. My brother and I had a hell of a time at a particular customer getting into their dock straight. As an ex plumber he quickly figured out the lines weren't perpendicular to the dock. He laid down new lines with the foam can and then it was easy.

You would guess right, however if you always back into Target, you'll get out of practice. You need to keep backing skills honed. What happens when you have to back out of a No truck rte. In New Jersey.Someone like (a cop) says to you"How long you been driving". You say 12 years,he says what"you can't back outta here"?

What in the hell does it matter? Either it's him or someone else. Only reason to look into it and point it out is to make fun of him which just shows a whole lot of insecurities in you.

As far as OP, I'd consider not doing dedicated. What about line haul or OTR? Not a lot of hard backing in either of those. Dedicated is asking to go to small stores instead of huge warehouses every day.

Top kek. I'm no super trucker. But looking through someone's post history to see if they're really asking for a friend or are just embarrassed to admit their own shortcomings and then calling them out on it.. Wow. Kinda stalkerish. A little bit of bullying in there. And overall, you're a dick.

I aimed a 53 footer at night down a blind culdesac at a single family home blind side once.

It was a surreal out of body experience for me. Never in my life have I been taught or expected to do something like that in life. I had 30 spotters then too. But everything I was and am screamed at me enough no more backing. Unload the oranges from florida right heah.
