I been sitting here reading post after post. I have to ask, what did DOT do to you that makes you talk like you hate them? They deal with obnoxious smelly truck drivers all day who have ego's bigger then there trucks and know the laws just as well as they do. I have never been wrote up for anything I did not deserve. It a cat and mouse game for most of us, and we should know when we are wrong. And do you think of all cops like you do DOT?
What did DOT do to you?

I never met one yet that wasn't fair...............
and believe me, I've met quite a few !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and that truck does look familiar............................, was it a TDT truck ?? -
If you were in the New England states between Maine and Ct you may have seen it. I dont know what a TDT truck is?
jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -
Let me see ???? Personally, I don't hate them. I have a deep mistrust of them, until they prove otherwise. Tit for Tat you might say.
MO DOT, demanded brake adjustment to such a tolerance that brakes were smoking within a mile after leaving scale. Officer used a sheet of notebook paper as a gauge...stating if it fit between shoe and drum, brakes were out of adjustment.
MS DOT officer, household packed with items removed from overweight trucks. Most comical item.... 5 Bean Bags. What does a 48 foot trailer full of bean bags weigh ???
CA DOT, demanded 30 days of logs. Was bad day for him, I had 10.
Sheriff Deputy...decorated local, state, and Federal. Shoots Sheriff in drug deal, In Sheriff's office.
Sheriff Deputy, used K-9 to subdue mentally unstable "patient" who was running from officer to avoid being taken to hospital. Patient had NO history of violence.
Jailer...shot in back of head while booking suspect brought in. Suspect was never frisked/searched, even though he was arrested for armed robbery.
Local Police, drop assault charges and DUI charges on badly beaten "DUI" offender, after DUI drops complaint of missing wallet and over $1000 in cash. Cash was from paycheck and vacation check.
Sheriff sends ONLY black deputy to serve warrant for domestic violence, in recorded calls to house, husband warns Sheriff he will kill the Deputy, if he sends that "n*****" to pick him up. Deputy shot 7 times...5 times in the head, with high powered rifle.
City and County Law Enforcement Officers running under age (teens) prostitution ring.
These are things I have experienced or have firsthand knowledge of.
Do you want more ??? I have more.
ALL of the local and county stories involve my friends/former friends on BOTH sides of the law.
I know as many crooks/dumba*** that wear a badge, as I do that don't wear a badge. The dirt sweeping goes both ways. Good trucker, bad trucker...Good lawman, Bad lawman. -
I have a general distrust of anyone who wears a badge.
It's not because of what's been done to me, I chalk it up to their ignorance of the laws. You see I'm one of these wise guys who carries the statutes book with me to remind the taxi driver with a badge of the laws in case he decides to make his own laws up(it's happened!) -
I don't hate them. There is bad in any job. Here's a few.
There are times like the San Diego scales pulled me in for an inspection. After it was over I was written up for not having brake lights. I went out to the truck and wedged my log book against the pedal. Walked around back and they were working just fine.
After questioning the officer, he said "they weren't working when I looked at them". Yeah right
Or the time I was pulled over for not having my seatbelt on pulling out of a truck stop. I always wear it and just haven't strapped in yet. It was a secondary offense and you can't be pulled over for that. Yet the cop used an inspection as an excuse and wrote me up for something that happened prior. His comment was, "you should of put it on before you seen me.
Or the time I got pulled over randomly and the cops last comment was. Two more and I'll have my quota for the day.
Or the time a lawman drew down on me just because he didn't like truckers. His first comment was, "you truckers think you can do what you want to".
Sounds like profiling to me.
Or the time I crossed the scales and was told to come inside. There was five bears and four truckers in there already. I had one of them sudden urges to break wind!
I tried hard to hold it but it slipped out quietly as I walked towards the door. I crawled in my truck and looked at them in the scale house curling their noses and waving their hands. I laughed for the rest of the night. Paybacks are hell! -
I had one bad experince with an LEO and that was in San Francisco,Ca. The rest of the time the DOT/LEO's I've dealt with were professional. I even gotten a couple of breaks along the way. Condocruiser I had a retired LEO as a teacher back in High School and talked to few active LEO's since then. They tell me there aren't any official quotas, but also told me their bosses want to see some traffic related tickets on their reports. I imagine its the same for DOT. Also DOT can find something to put a truck OOS if they want to look hard enough. The trick is not to give them a reason to look.

Only issue I have every had was with brake adjustments, and I saw several more trucks in my company who got hit with the same thing.
Brakes would work great in the truck. Get pulled over by DOT and told they were incorrect. Get brakes adjusted to their specs to make them happy. Drive with poorly working brakes back to the shop and have them adjusted back to where they were in the first place, and they'd work great again. -
slo-poke i guess you never bin pulled over by a CT dot cop then, 9 out of 10 are just out here to cash in on us and bust are balls, i bin in line for the scale let every truck go pull me in and the response i get when i ask why me i'am empty is you have a nice truck you can affore it or the one dot that told me it's the price i have to pay for being cool i've had some good dot cops in all the states i run but for the most part there just plain rude and unperfessional they treat me with respect they get it back they don't they don't get it.
