ok, so i was running down 75 into atlanta today, and as most of you know there is heavy heavy amounts of trucks that run this section of 75, from tenn/ga state line down to atlanta, anway, im a truck person, i enjoy seeing a nice truck, and i like to look and see what " things " people have mounted on the out side of their trucks ( bikes, tools etc and how they are mounted ).... anyway, this morning, ( 2-21 ) prob around 8:30is, a white, ( what looked like ) older model international was passing me, and he was pulling tanker, anyway, back to his truck, he had what lookd like a modified sleeper, the truck its self had a sleeper, but it looks like it was extended, a white box, big, no windows on this " addition "... this isnt the odd part, weve seen some sleepers that look like they were " home made ", the odd part was a Thermo King Reefer unit mounted on the TOP BACKSIDE of this " sleeper "....and no, im not talking about an APU, i have a thermo king apu and know what they look like, this was the exact same thing that is mounted on the FRONT of the 6/10 wheel box trucks... this was odd... i tried to holler for him on the radio, but had no luck, and another guy wanted to know why, " i was yellin out for the sb tanker " and i explained to him what i seen, and he also wanted to know.... this just came off as off to me.. i never seen a unit mounted on the back of this, what apeared to be, sleeper..... anyone ever seen something like this? i wish i could have snapped a pic, but i was maxd out on weight, 79,920, and going up a hill and lost his quickly..

then, shortly there after, heading north on 85, i was kinda running along with a flat bed, and i noticed on his headach rack, 2 large tanks, much larger then like a propain tank, one mounted on each side of the rack, with hoses that went down below the trl/trk some place, i dk where they went, i couldnt see, but i noticed what looked like a smaller propain tank mounted on the frame of the truck, on the passanger side, right about where an apu would be mounted.... this is something els i never seen.... any flatbedders care to explain? his head ach rach was mounted to the truck, not the trl....

    thanks in advance,
    s2b

I've seen 1 ton pickups pulling RV's with household window A/C's sticking out the rear window. Nothing surprises me these days.
Perhaps it was his version of an APU....

sounds like a drom box on the truck for temp sensitive materials. Was it a chemical tanker?

I use to see Condos or even old Cab overs with a roof mount AC unit. I assumed it was because the driver wanted more AC to the bunk, more than the dash AC could deliver.

temperature sensitive chemicals are usually in smaller tankers (smaller diameter tank), this one may have had a box with a reefer unit for other temp sensitive materials, smaller quantity, boxed type stuff that doesn't go in a tanker. Could be a very specialized carrier.
