What do carriers, shippers, and drivers expect out of a broker or freight agent?

I work for a small carrier in central GA that's expanding to include a brokerage. I have a good relationship with my drivers from several months of handling payroll and basically being a barback for our dispatcher. Now, I'm being transitioned into the getting customers side of the business and feel a little lost. i want to make my company money, obviously, but I also want to cement our, and my, reputation of being fair. In a world where drivers and shippers are both trying to make their own money....how does the middle man find an equitable balance without shooting themselves in the foot?

The list can go on but in the end - No BS.

If this is a new brokerage you are going to struggle. Without established carriers and credit, getting loads covered is going to be a challenge. Has you boss thought about being an agent?

Patience lots of patience it isnt easy by no means however it can be rewarding in many more ways than just financially. First on my mind is the custmoers that you company already services meaning obviously if you have been getting freight through other brokers you have an agreement not to solicit the shipper on your own as a direct carrier but what about now as a Broker? Does this mean you must go completely outside the box and find all new shippers? Will you by doing so hurt the relationships that you already have with some great shippers but through another Broker? While the "whys" may be plenty there are certainly more "ifs" just be true to yourself your company and those that give you the opportunity to have their business and always be honest with everyone including your self! At the end of the day when you really think about it there is nothing that you I or any other broker can do that the other brokers can't I wish you all the best in this new chapter of your life!
