    I fill it out. Check.

14 hour clock, 12 hours driving, got it. (CA intrastate)

I can split my 10 by 2 and 8, fair enough.

What do I do when it's done? Am I supposed to file the thing somewhere? My boss doesn't want anything to do with my logs, but without them, I'd have nothing to stop him from running me 80+ hours a week!

Keep the original at your house. Have your own file at home; this covers you if something happens.

Thanks. The old driver didn't file anything, so the boss assumed that he was free of any responsibility. I'll just keep them, I guess.

What are they used for, with the exception of inspections and accidents?

Aren't you "local"? Meaning you operate within 150 air miles of your yard?
If so, you don't even need to keep a log.

Either way, make sure you keep the last 8 days worth with you while you're on the road.
