I'm in my second week of school, and I am really upset and don't know how to handle this problem. My so call teacher is retired from the military, that's great but I don't like his teaching methods I didn't sign up for the Army. I get in the driver's seat and he saids drive. Okay, I have never double clutched a big rig or driven one before, I'm here too learn. He starts screaming and yelling to do this and that, he yelled so much I could not think.I don't mind being corrected but this abuse is so bad I don't think I can take this. He yells at the other driver's also,I sit it the back of the sleeper and cover my ears because it is so bad. I am not a wimp, but this is not the way to teach in my opinon. What do I do grin and bear it?:biggrin_25513:
I really want to learn to drive this big truck my family is counting on me!

Scream back at him, tell him you're not flippin deaf, and to ####!! I mean really, who the heck does he think he is, some drill instructor and your in boot camp? Or you could quit and find some other school.

Does he do this with all his students? Maybe he's deaf, or his hearing is severely impaired. They tend to talk louder. If not do as 123456 says, grow a pair, get in his face (not while driving), let him know that you've never driven a truck, and that it is his job to teach you. That by what he's doing it seems he's not able to do his job. I mean you're paying him, maybe he doesn't want the school to have your money.

Had one student in school that was dumber than a ####roach, couldn't understand how to do logbooks, read maps, or trip plan. The instructor would literally spend the entire morning, going step-by-step with this student, had to basically tell the student everything. The student then had the gall to file a complaint, claiming that the instructor was ignoring. If that wasn't enough the student had to throw the race-card into it. The instructor was p-d off, but also scared. I sat beside this student most of the time, and what the student was claiming was pure B.S.

he has no right to yell at you...and if thats his method of "teaching" he shouldnt be.....tell somoene....dont listen to the bs of "Grow a pair"....you are there to learn...altho you cant possibly learn all you need to know, that comes hands on....but you need to be able to pay attention and concentrate as do the other students...aint NO WAY i would put up with that!!!!!

If this guy is yelling at everyone I can imagine the looks between the other three students in the back of that truck. OBSERVE. Is anyone else showing expressions of disbelief? I would talk with the other students and see how they feel and if they are willing to go to the instructor's boss or head of that school. Don't let your frustration impede your ability to think when you aren't driving the truck. How is he when he isn't in the truck. Maybe you could talk to him. If you get a couple of the students on board with you, he will probably tone it down a bit. Keep trying and don't give up whatever you do. Good luck.

When somebody else is driving and you are sitting in the sleeper, get a recorder and record is tirants, and then play it back to his boss. Yeah, you can't learn when somebody is screaming at you all the time. Its time he learns how to teach or get another job.
    Good luck

You have your choice of some good advice, posted above.

If this situation were mine, here is my approach:

    1) Speak with him, one-on-one, indicate your concerns and the difficulties resulting from his methods.

    2) Be professional, do not raise your voice. As stated, he could be hearing impaired.

    3) If he is defensive, or the situation does not improve by the following day, speak with fellow students and gather two or three to join your effort. There is power in numbers.

    4) As a group, speak with him. If he refuses to listen, using a calm voice, let him know he has left your group no choice. You are now forced to speak with the school director. **Edit -- Select one member of the group as the spokesperson and let him know you, (or whomever) are speaking for the group. Do not permit the group to react like a "gang" in an effort to intimidate the instructor, especially considering his background.**

    5) The last resort should be speaking with his boss. Most (adult) employees prefer to address a difficulty without "help" from their boss. If he is incapable of looking into a mirror and seeing the need for self improvement, he has made your decision for you. Speak with the director, as a group.

    Calm attitudes typically prevail.

Occasionally, during a negotiation, there is a need to inform those resisting, "Do not mistake my kindness for weakness."

"Life be not so short, but that there is always time for courtesy."
    R.W. Emerson

If your opponent is a thug, resist stooping to his level. Wisdom generally prevails.

Should wisdom fail, well then, turn his other cheek. (j/k)

"The true art of diplomacy is found in letting others have your way without their knowing it."
    Thomas Jefferson

Should diplomacy fail, well then, :yes2557: you get the idea. (j/k)

Let us know how soon you succeed. *How is that for confidence.*

no teacher should ever yell at a student, and that applies tenfold when the student is behind the wheel.
