three days ago I was hired on to a local company in NE VT, have about 2500 miles OTR with a reefer. I was hired and honest with my experience, my boss put my in a tanker ( I dont have a tanker endorsement) and wanted me to blind side alley dock off of a dirt road in a truck older then me. He didnt exactly fire me but told me he didnt need me yesterday, and didnt call today. Also half way through the first day he took me out of the tanker and put me in a straight truck with a 20' flat trailer and told me to practice. would practicing with a straight truck and pintle hitch trailer really help with a 48' tanker and day cab?
what do I do?

Start looking for another job; the boss doesn't seem too professional.
Big difference in backing a 20' trailer vs. a 48' or 53' trailer. The boss isn't too smart trying to train you that way. There have been several posts on this forum about people trained on short trailers in some CDL schools, then had problems at their first trucking job because of it.
Check Careerbuilder and Indeed websites. If you want to stay local, some food service companies will hire you and put you with a co-driver/trainer for a couple of weeks to learn the backing procedures and delivery routes. The money is real good also with food service.mje, Tonythetruckerdude and Puppage Thank this. -

no, I worked two days ten hours each day, first day I got 5 hours paid, rest was "my time" practice, second day I got one hour when he sent me to unload a hay wagon. Its hard to say but think Im gonna have to leave my family for a bit and go back OTR to get what I need

Did you try Schneider? Schneider hires about anywhere. Schneider also has a good paying tanker division if you get the tanker/hazmat endorsements.
Prime has Northeast regional.
Contact Holland Enterprises Inc. and ask if you're in their hiring area.Guitar Man and mje Thank this. -
