I would like to hear about that as well.aiwiron Thanks this. -
If you finance it you will need full coverage insurance for the bank. The dealership will give you a 15 or 30 day temporary tag to drive it home and other places if you need to have something done to it. But you will not be able to haul anything with it on that temp.
FLATBED, MJ1657, aiwiron and 1 other person Thank this. -
Landstar makes it easy and does all the DMV WORK.Your only work is to go to your DMV and get title transfered to your name..Remember you are now ''tax free'' on a commercial truck. You will only have to pay tranfer fee.In Ny it is 50 bucks..
But you can not drive the truck out of the lot till you have that on your pocession.Unless you are a nut like me and defy law alltogether...In that case ride on and go home with it.. -
What I was confused by was when you said you need a plate and insurance to drive off the lot. Some other posts have cleared up that error.
You need insurance and a temporary tag.aiwiron, cetanediesel and landstar8891 Thank this. -
TwinStickPeterbilt and MJ1657 Thank this.

To clarify:
Planning to lease onto Landstar...
Buying a truck that needs some work prior and need to drive the truck with no cargo prior to leasing to LS
Paying cash so financing is not a issue
From what i understand form all these post, I need insurance and a temp tag. Do i get the temp tag from the state I buy it in, or my home state?
So I'm guessing i need to buy the truck, then go to the DMV to buy the temp tag and get title transferred? -
Certainly Landstar should be able to provide a little insight to this process, shouldn't they?
As for insurance if one were parking the truck anywhere near Philadelphia I presume it would be a good idea to have it. All kidding aside yes you will need insurance for the ride home and to purchase the truck. Whether you are buying from an individual or not you should call a dealer near the truck and just tell them you are interested in the Kenworth on there lot and what would you need to have to drive it off the lot - certainly they would know how it works for the state you are in. -
you need insurance, the dealer will give you a temp tag good for a while.30 to 90 days, drive it home, place the bill of sale in the wind shield,,lets people know its a new bought truck,,
