Thanks to everyone for all the tips. That was EXACTLY the type of info I was looking for. Now it's just a matter of finding a decent company that will hire someone who's been a decade out of trucking.
What do I need to know about automatic transmission trucks?

Theyre harder to back up because you dont have a clutch. The volvos are really smooth but any other brand is a bit jumpy. Just be real easy on the throttle. I always shut that hill start assist crap off too.

I have one tip. Don’t forget to put it in neutral before getting out of the Truck. I did it a few times. Brakes were set, and held, but still could be dangerous.

Little pedal for go, big pedal for stop.

Ralph, your good to go on a tractor trailer, 10 years will get you rolling with no problem driving the automatics. At first i hated just the thought of driving one, but then im a lot older, and my knees are shot, so i got used to it and liked it.

That's the problem with this industry now. Most of them are too dumb to even figure that out.. That's why these POS automatics exist in the first place... Instead of creating better drivers., They try to create dummy proof trucks.

They do have a place. Rear loading trash trucks come to mind. But for the things to infest the trucking industry the way they have reeks of the CDL mills simply wanting to broaden the pool of potential victims.Concorde, TruckDriver87, Sons Hero and 4 others Thank this.
