The old ones had backup and neutral. Not going to pretend I know the Eaton 10 speed from 2016 that well.

If I’m not talkin out of school, if I remember correctly the ecm determines what gear you are in by comparing the tail shaft speed with crankshaft speed. The logic in the ecm can calculate this because the gear ratios are in the program. Also with “Gear Down Protection” enabled it prevented some trucks with specific rear ratios from running faster than the set limit in 9th account of engine could turn up,faster in 9th than 10th. Top cruise speed was set for high gear or about .75 ratio, or whatever top gear ratio the transmission was. Sounds like gear down protection is enabled in you ecm. I think.

Sounds like it has the progressive shift program turned on.

isnt changing settings in the ecu considered reprogramming?

I would consider it a "parameter change" not a reprogramming/software update.

    lester Thanks this.

revising a program still considered a reprogram. That’s how I know it and what I learned in the late 90’s learning to code.

But a parameter change won't effect the base programming or update the code in anyway, deletes, horsepower changes, ect will remain intact. It will just edit a parameter value.

Ya any change to the programming is considered updating aka reprogramming. It doesn’t matter if it’s “base” or not. Not sure what “base” means as that language is never used.

If I go in the ecu and changed one parameter it is considered that I reprogrammed the ecu.
