    Hey everyone,

As some of you guys know I've been looking for a trucking job for a while now with no sucess. I got my cdl back in June, didn't go to trucking school or anything. IE no formal training. I just practiced on a buddy of mines tractor trailer dump and aced the test.

Now i do have experience driving the rigs locally for another friend up north driving his garbage trucks and dump trucks pulling a 10 ton tag trailer hauling equipment for him. But here is the thing it was all BEFORE I got my CDL!!!! Luckily I never got busted.

So yeah there in lies my problemo. I have a CDL class A that's clean, no Formal training, and no Formal experience, and to top things off I live in Florida with a gf and a kid "not mine but look after her like she is babies father is scumbag pedophile" and I'm 22. So I got a lot of things against me at the moment.

Here's my question to the great ones on the site. Would it be so bad with my 6 months with my cdl coming up to start putting I have 6 month worth of experience on the app? Of course I have asked my old boss and he said that would be fine with him and he WILL back me up if anyone calls. The only reason why i don't go back to work for him is he is to slow to take on anyone at the moment.

I've been thinking long and hard about this and it looks like the only way in. I need a job, the only other thing I knew was earth moving and road building but that has just about dried up out here in central FL. I've never had to lie to get a job before but its getting to where I will do anything.

If I could find an O/O out there that would take me on that would be great. But that probably wont happen. I understand even if I do get on with a company only with 6 months worth of experience I will have to go to there training course or something like logging class. That's fine I just want to get in the door even if it means teaming with someone.

I just want to work I'm not drawing unemployment, I got a truck payment to make and I wanna help the gf out after all shes done for me. I've put in an application everywhere i could think of from the big trucking companies that hire in Florida to the little companies that are based in Florida, to the local Wal-Marts and even the local burger joints no one will touch me.

I'm clean cut, no tats piercings, doesn't do drugs or even drinks, show up on time with an impeccable record, never even burned a bridge with an employer before. (I have the references to prove it) I'm not much of a customer service guy as in serving the general public I tend to prefer to work in the back or away from the general public... been that way since I was 16. I was a finish dozer/ pan man and also been told I could run a grader decent. I'm just looking for a shot out there. I'm just looking to get back working. I'm tired of sitting around on my butt.

Lie or not, your 6 months driving a garbage truck or dump truck will mean nothing to an OTR company. Why would you want to lie on a job application? Not a very smart thing to do.

He could very well say he's got 6 months with a truck and trailer and then give the weights. No lying there.

    jtrnr1951 Thanks this.

It might work. As long as you got someone who will verify it for you. I am not saying you should lie or anything. But you got to do what you got to do.

Also six months is that majic number where you won't have to go with a trainer.

I dont consider it otr at the least bit but it sounds better then nothing at all so its worth a shot

My Sister-in-law was in the same position. She learned by riding with and learing from an O/O. She got her cdl but had no formal experiene or training she could claim. She ended up going to Central, she had to go through a shortend version of their cdl and school and out with the trainer until the trainer signed off on her.

I agree with the poster that you don't want to lie on your applicaion. If it gets discovered for whatever reason you could lose your job or worse. My sister-in-law has a riend sh met at Central, he lied on his application to cover a gap in work history, said he wored for his fathers company for 5 months, he father backed it up, but Central found out and he lost his job, and hasn't been able to get on anywhere else in months. The thing is, he would o gotten hired whith the gap if he just explained it. Don't now how they found out, but I know there is a way, I was interviewing with a company once, (Not Trucking) and on the final interview they asked me about a job I had that didn't pu on my resume or application. It was just a silly part time job I had for 3 month to get some extra christmas cash, But they knew about it.

Some applications will have a section were you mark off what type of truck you have driven ie. box, tanker. If you mark down anyone that you have not actually driven, that would be bad for you.. Specifically if you check you drove a 53 Ft box, then they road tested you, they will be able to tell if in fact you did or did not.. Then that would give you a automatic firing for lying on your app, and they could ding you DAC for it..
