What do you call it when they customize their truck to have an extra long catwalk?

The west coast guys have their own different flair. Everything they do...cars, pickups, bikes, big rigs...everything. That style bike is rare to see everywhere else, but in the west. It's not anything that I would do, not my style, but that's an incredible video. Lots and lots of pride. Pride is a good thing.

Sometimes it can help a little with scaling. My truck is a 244 wheelbase 379 with a 63" bunk. Guys that pulled reefers with a deep kingpin setting with a truck like mine have the reefer up tight to the bunk and the 5th wheel barely centered. With more room to the bunk they can slide the 5th wheel ahead enough to load up the steer axle. That's why some have shallow kingpin settings too. In some cases if you have a shorter trailer the longer outer bridge brings you up to gross weight. All that being said l personally wouldn't go longer than 275 on a exhd or 244 on a truck with a set back front axle. Different strokes for different folks though.

Looks cool, rides nice, but I doubt you'll ever see these going over a scale. You'd never get 12g's on the steer axle that far away from the load.

I have never gotten 12,000 on my steers ever even on loads where I grossed 79500 pounds total.

When I had my '72 Pete in the avatar, I used to take weight OFF the steer axle with a full load. Needless to say, I never went over a scale loaded either.

I'm not a huge fan of stretched conventionals. Stretched cabovers are the cat's ### though.

Mine is a COE. 9 feet between the cab and trailer on a 230" wheelbase.
