What do you carry with you while you are driving? Other than your CDL, insurance verification for the truck, and registration, what other paperwork is it wise to carry? Do you carry your physical exam papers? I know one driver who carries a disposable camera. He said they took his phone during an incident and feared losing evidence to support his claim and that pictures from a cheap disposable backed him up. Is it wise to do a written log even if you have an ELD? Other advice, ideas, what do you do?

    A Glock 23 and a Glock 42. ;-)

You will need the company binder, it will have more permit information in them that you will need. A card for the ELD that explains to the officer how to view it or get info out of it, etc..

Tools, a small tool bag is a necessity out here, some wrenches and a decent ratchet socket set, screwdriver and Torx bits, you WILL need Torx bits. I would also purchase some four inch Vice Grip Needle Nose pliers. I carry four of them with me. You lose an airline in the cab, or a heater hose, you can clamp off long enough to get to a repair facility. I have had those seat airlines blow out on me more than a few times, no matter how well I attempt to keep them away from all of the sharp metal pieces in the seat base. You hear a loud POP! And then watch the air gauges quickly go to zero. These vice grip clamps are a real and inexpensive life saver.

Others will chime in, but get some tools, company driver or not.

2 crescent wrenches, 1 crowbar, 1 small sledge, 2 vice grips, 1 bolt cutter, a screwdriver with changeable heads, utility knife, lots of water, bungees for assorted jobs, like holding mud flaps if having to jump a curb to back to a dock, dang kids got to old to do any work so credit card and cash.
