So that's roughly $2.28/mile pulling a flat with your own authority?

It’s not that easy, takes more than just buying a truck to be successful.

Joe, I dig your idea of comparing here. I think about this stuff all the time. I think it's pretty hard to do though as we're finding out. There are just too many different kinds of trucking out there. Even within each type of trailer there are a lots of niche things going on. I think it's just about impossible to compare with anyone other than people who do just what you do.

I grossed $180k last year. I had hoped to crack 200k but no luck. Not sure exactly what I kept because I salary myself very low and sock a lot away to pay off equipment and debt in big chunks. Anyway, I ran 90k or so all miles for this and I'm not proud of that given how good a year it was for trucking but it was still the first year for me so there's that.

Every time I feel bad about it I think about how much time I took off. 11 weeks last year. 1 full month of that was getting my authority and everything started, shopping for truck/trailer and getting my house in order to take off OTR. This year I'll have much less time off, probably 6-8 weeks, but due to the lousy rates I'll be lucky to gross the same.

I wouldn't have it any other way. Stayinback has it right. O/O is more about freedom than money to me.
