What I don't understand is why states are able to get away with closing rest areas (parking) when they get federal funding for highways . I don't even know why drivers go to the North East . Screw them !!

I’m not a big northeast guy. I dislike driving the Tri-State are and mass. Just to cramped for trucks really. and the city folk will whip by you at 85 and slam the brakes 2 seconds later in front of you.

I like driving through South Dakota and Wyoming and even parts of utah where I can put my foot down at 75 and leave the 62 mega’s in the dust.

    86scotty Thanks this.

From the places I've been, either Southern Ontario between Windsor and Barrie and the Chicago metropolitan area. Never been further east than Buffalo, NY but I'm guessing further east is likely far worse for trucks.

My favourite places to run in the US are ND, SD, WY, NE, KS, OK, TX, MO, IA and to some degree MN (west of Minneapolis). Still hoping to see CO, NM, AR, UT and maybe a bit more of AK and LA in the future. Wide open roads, wide open landscapes and plenty of truck stops that don't fill up by 4pm. Also, tons of friendly people and mostly good drivers that respect the size and weight of trucks.

Edit: Forgot to mention the good, cheap food and crazy cheap beer.

I dread Atlanta and Chicago. I can tolerate about everything else. Never been to CA or NY in a truck and don't plan to.

I'm learning to hate PA as it seems to hate my truck and trailer but I make a lot of money there.

I've never driven a truck east of Salt Lake City and I don't doubt what you guys are saying about some of the big cities back east.
But if you haven't driven a truck in the middle of the day in downtown SanFrancisco...and I mean downtown, the steep hills, narrow side streets, trolley car tracks, one way streets, and drivers who just don't care...you owe it to yourself to try it. Once. Once should be enough.

Yeah, I take the long way around that place. Never going through there again.

It was nice, but not in a big truck.
