It depends.
Yesterday morning in Arkansas I was with a group of drivers set to pick up a pump truck. Couldn't get to the frack site because the dirt road to the oil well was washed out. We went back to our hotel, figuring at least a day before the floodwaters could recede and the road repaired.
We got a call in the afternoon that the road was repaired. Indeed it was, but we did have to cross some 6" deep floodwater over the paved highway to get there.
Two hours later I drove my permitted overweight pump out and that 6" water was up to 18" over the road with a good current. Two lanes, no turn around, one hundred yards of water and unknown how high the water will rise.
I dropped to a low gear and crawled through in the center, steering to avoid logs floating across. This morning I was told that road is under several feet. It's the permitted route for heavy loads. Nobody getting through for at least another day or two.x1Heavy, AtticusRoad, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
I wonder if that turned into a REALLY long straight back.
Dave_in_AZ, Ooops and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Usually, I look for a way around the closure, if that's not possible, I find a comfy spot to hold up.
dca and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Find a place to park, go to sleep, no load is worth your life or another; and if a road is posted closed and you go around then wreck, insurance can deny claim.
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
AM14 Thanks this.
