I've got one of those George Foreman G-broil units. Best $50 I spent. Gets used almost every day. Just have to run the truck to use it. Inverter pulls 100 amps for a 1200 watt load.
If you have a microwave, you can have nicely steamed vegetables. I have some dishes from Sistema plastics. They seal up but have a steam port on top. Work beautifully.
what do you do when truck stops are full

As for the OP's question, get a Rand McNally Truckers atlas if you don't have one. If you look closely, it shows along the line where the rest stops are. I never count on a truck stop to have open spots unless I am stopping early enough.
I usually aim for a rest stop. If you do find a truck stop that is full, you can find somewhere to hang out in the lot until a spot opens up. I have a problem believing DOT would have an issue with moving a truck a few feet to grab a previously used parking spot. Just be careful parking, though. But as long as you are not in the way, I wouldn't fret about it. The lot will open up soon enough.Northtown, Grind-o-holic and mje Thank this. -

Thanks guys for all the great ideas, I will definitely get the truck stop guide you were all talking about and use the Wal-Mart, lowes, and Home Depot parking lots you suggested. Big thank you again!

I try to avoid truck stops but that's where the fuel and showers are. It sucks to try and get parked and get a shower in the evening. I have seniority but all the 120% turnover mega carrier CDL school grads are squatting in the parking spots thinking what a mistake it was to fall for that CDL school spiel and how long it's gonna take to pay it off and who's sleeping in their bed at home and drinking their beer and ____ their wife!

Thanks for the information. Just getting into trucking myself, and I need all the help I can get. Granted, I already have my CDL, but no recent OTR experience. So it's going to be an adventure.
CobraDane, I read your blog. pretty cool. Looking forward to reading about your journey in the trucking industry.mje Thanks this. -

I never stop on state property unless it is an emergency .
Not all states do this but all of them can if they want so not being one to help them take my money I avoid all contact with all of them if at possible !!!
Just another little jewel you learn with experience .mje Thanks this. -
We park at rest stops but your question is related to a reset. No one wants to be at a rest stop for that long.
Reserve a spot at a T/A. That might be your best option.mje Thanks this.
