Plan your trip seriously if you're driving for the full 11. I don't know your driving habits but learned to plan your time. I'll drive 4 hours take a break. I listen to music, talk radio, call a few people, enjoy the cool breeze outside etc. You have to enjoy the day or night. Sitting in a sit being bounced around for a long period of time is not a good thing. You have to take care of your body & mind. I hope you find that happy medium for yourself.

But regardless, you do not understand how fast things can turn sour in a CMV. Trucks are very slow at any type of manuever. You can't accelerate out of danger, you can't stop on a dime, and you can't swerve around danger without the real chance of flipping the rig. Those few seconds of being distracted can literally be the difference between a near miss and a multi vehicle collision with fatalities. You have to be planning 3 steps ahead of everyone else.
I know it seems dull to be driving down the interstate for 10 hours a day. If it's really that hard to imagine though, trucking might not be the best choice, and I mean no offense by that. Trucking is not for everyone. We already have a huge influx of drivers who can't keep their truck in their lane because they are texting or watching a movie on their tablet while hammering down the road in an 80k pound death machine.Sirscrapntruckalot, Lepton1, STexan and 1 other person Thank this. -
I do alot of thinking. Solving problems. Give me enough time or miles to think things through and it will be solved in every way possible. It's one of my favorite activities. If there is a problem that needs solving. Whatever it is. Sometimes it will take a few days, Im slow. Sue me. LOL.
I thought the OP had a very good question. I spent my time driving. As soon as a situation is past, I forget about it and clear out the head until the next problem with other drivers and people. One time in Allentown I believe I had a man walking backwards on the crosswalk, I happened to be making a left across same. I stopped my 18 wheeler, set brakes and turn off engine to lean out the window and wait until he got to my door walking backwards.
Everyone else being jammed up in that major intersection sat and waited watching him also. It's not really about me causing a hold up anymore.
He reached my door still walking backwards. I said "Hello" He jumped like 9 feet into the air, string of profanity while taking very large clown stepping to get away from me any way but loose. We all laughed. To this day I am convinced he thought he was a dead man when he got a eyeful of my cab and steer tire on his crosswalk. But little did he know that the whole situation evolved long before he got there.
Those are the things you remember best, and build stories to tell later. Well later is now and that story is told.JolliRoger, John B. Hood, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -

You can use your time driving long hours contemplating why the hell you went the truck driving route, rather than other careers you probably contemplated.
Then when you’re done kicking yourself in the butt for that bad choice, you can think about how you’re going to correct it and figuring out what Plan B isJohn B. Hood, Pumpkin Oval Head and Lepton1 Thank this. -
