Steel toe boots suck. Get some comfortable boots for driving and a cheap pair of steel toes to keep under the bunk to wear when required.

I do flatbed and while I do have steel toe boots just in case I rarely wear them. They are just not comfortable to me. Only time I wear them is when at a shipper that I know is strict. Often times there will be a sign saying steel toed boots, hard hat, etc. required but even the guys working at the place are not using them and I just do my thing and no one says anything.

Indeed. PPE requirements are getting ridiculous and making it seem like they are coming up with these "safety solutions" via committee rather than thinking it through.

A steel mill I frequent requires 1) hard hat (with chin strap), 2) safety glasses, 3) steel toes, 4) long sleeves, 5) long pants and 6) something reflective be worn at all times (regardless of the weather). If not, you can get refused your load and banned from the site.

Yet when it comes to tarping, they don't have any fall-restraint systems in place.

Some truck stops the fuel handle automatic cutoff doesn't work properly and if you're resting your hand on the nozzle waiting for it to click off; then fuel comes gushing out and all over the place. Petro was bad about that.

I've been wearing Reebok or Converse side-zip military style safety toe boots lately. They are lightweight like sneakers, yet have good grip and slip resistance, and they are composite toe, so no extra weight there.

OP, make sure when you do hit the road to get a pair of flip flops or some type of shower shoe for the truck stop showers. You can get some serious funk o' feet from some of the trash some "drivers" have on themselves.....o_O
