$0.00. Only talked to 1 DOT person, ever, who just said "You've been busy today. Get outta here."

Only ticket ever was at the scale at Crowsnest pass coming into AB, for failing to note a Pre trip inspection on the truck. It came from the dealer with a fresh DOT inspection the day before.... I made sure that coop was closed whenever I came through there.
Several “fixit tickets”, one for a flat tire that was still hissing pretty good. They probably saved me a blow out on that one.

King pin ticket? Was it bent? Not latching property?

Kpra. What some incorrectly call bridge law. His tandems were too far from the kingpin.

I have always thought the spacing between the kingpin and the tandems was called the bridge law based on the language found in 23 CFR 658.5 and in 658.17 (e) (not pasting this section!)

Bridge gross weight formula. The standard specifying the relationship between axle (or groups of axles) spacing and the gross weight that (those) axle(s) may carry expressed by the formula:

[IMG] where W = overall gross weight on any group of two or more consecutive axles to the nearest 500 pounds, L = distance in feet between the extreme of any group of two or more consecutive axles, and N = number of axles in the group under consideration.

Another really good link to better understand what is meant by 658.5 and 658.17 (e) can be found here!

I do think we should be mindful of what the actual rules are named and what has entered common parlance, and try to not be confusing especially to green drivers, by trying to draw a distinction. Example A Timber Rattlesnake correctly is called a venomous Snake. However, where I grew up most common folks called them "Poisonous Snakes". In this case, Federal Regulations refer to it as the Bridge weight "formula".
