Hi how is everyone? I was just wanting to know what you guys thought about this truck. It doesn't have much information on it, but I'm looking into getting back into hauling containers again. The rail freight is moving pretty good here in Ohio still. The only thing I don't like about this truck so far is that its a automatic. I have heard that the transmissions in automatic semis have a lot of problems. I have never had a automatic I have always drove 9's and 10 speeds, and a super 10 here and there. I just wanted to know what you guys thought here is the truck. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3847657194.html that is the website that has the truck. Thanks again and I appreciate what everyone has to say. Have a great day! Here also is a 97 Kenworth, but I would have to call that guy too because he doesn't have much wrote on there either mileage, transmission etc... Here is this truck though. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/3852764748.html
What do you guys think of this truck?

Only thing that scares me is the auto.. if its a 1st gen auto don't do it. They had way to many problems...

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing that's been my main worry is the auto.

Is the Kenworth International a distant cousin of the Peterliner?
123456 Thanks this. -
Automatics are very expensive to repair. If it were me, I would stay away from any automatic class 8 truck.

If you've been driving for awhile, you will not like the auto tranny. No way to manipulate the power to pass ...or even get out of the way.

That's a fair asking price on the International truck. It's got good things going for it as far as the engine with rebuild. I know nothing of autos but it's fair to say if you get it checked out properly and see any and all maintenance records it should tell you if it's had ongoing transmission issues or not. If it checks out ok then I think it would make a good first truck to get started with. That Detroit is going to give you a decent mpg figure and the recent rebuild (get the papers or it didn't happen!) will give peace of mind. Also says tires are good sk that's another thing to not worry about for the first year. Just by looking at the pics it doesn't appear to have any noticeable irregular wear on the drives or the left front steer( they are the only tires you can see in the pics), it looks clean on the outside and in fair condition for its age on the interior. Cab paint looks good and it doesn't appear to have any visible external damage.
I noticed it looks to have a PP power box, that could be good or bad. I don't know much about them but if you search on this site you will find info about them.
All in all if it checked out ok then it would probably be a good truck to get started with. -

Thank you guys for all of the info I appreciate it a lot! I was worried with the auto transmission. I was also wondering if autos hurt you a lot more on mpg. Neways thanks again everyone, and you all be safe out there!

The 9900 looks nice and has a decent price. The transmission can easily be swapped out for a manual if it gives you problems. My major concern is the Pittsburgh Power box installed. I'd check out the truck really good if you're interested.
