What I hate about mechanics is the same thing that I love about them; they can fix stuff and I can't.

Like TA mechanics tighten the filters to hard and miss out some grease points. Charging too much for single LED clearance light and single tire needed to replace total $308. I love doing mechanic jobs by myself, no labor costs, just paying the parts and equipments.

I built a lube skid that I could crane off and on my service truck-air operated diaphragm pump-waste oil compartment etc. It turned out really nice, but I found that it was more convenient to use 5 gallon pails.
It was a fun project and it seemed like a good idea at the time, but......

Its kind of funny you bring that post up. Not 2 weeks after I posted that they gave my service truck to another mechanic and put me and another guy in that new lube truck. I hated it at first but I love it now. We modified a bunch of stuff to make it work better for us. Its heated and has a nice work bench inside. Plus its nice having to just open a side cabinet and pull the oil hose out when doing a service. Same with the waste oil. Just suck it right out of the drain pan. No messing around with pails and funnels. The layout of the truck could be improved though. I do miss having a crane too.

I think if I had done more oil changes in the field it would have been a good deal, as it turned out just about the only time I did one was if I had to drop the pan. I guess you have to make some hard choices if you have just one truck-mine is 33,000 GVW because I am such a pack rat and because I hadn't figured I would be working out of a shop here in SE Montana. I am able to have a lot of gear on my truck, but the downside is that I have to maintain a DOT number-drug testing-and all that goes along with it-not a huge deal, I guess-just one more thing to have to deal with. .

every mechanic for big trucks or 4 wheelers always messes with your seat and steering wheel settings. seriously what gives?!?!?! you're literally driving it from the lot to the shop and back...100-300 feet max. do you really need to screw my seat all up?

also they freak out as 5 o clock rolls around. mechanics think they will turn into a pumpkin after 5 lol

An old timer told me starting out that when a customer brought a car in for repair and there was nothing wrong with it, they'd just slide the seat ahead 1 notch and make up a story about something they found. Mind over matter I guess lol.
