Hello all, I am re-visiting the forum after awhile away. I am taking a look at trucking as a career move. I've been in the business world for almost 10 years now and have considered becoming a truck driver in the past. My question is this...What do all of you like about trucking? What is it that makes this career so attractive to some and they do it for years? Thanks ahead of time!

    Some level of freedom.
At the right carrier you will be judged on your performance.
You will be allowed the freedom to decide how to perform.
    Basically you aren't micro managed.

What I really liked about oversize was all the different industries I got exposed to. The out of the way places I delivered to.
There are a lot of interesting places, people and things out there.
All this and you still have the privacy of your truck when you want.

For me it would be keeping my family tradition going. My father , uncles, and grandfather all drove. I was almost born in a truck and was riding in them when I was still in diapers. Trucking was all I knew and all I ever wanted to do growing up. I sometimes hate the business but I'll always love the job.

Thank you all for your comments. These are all some of the reasons I thought I would read. Freedom, money, the road, fun, etc. My brother is an O/O who runs part-time and I would actually like to go that route. We both grew up around trucks, but I've never driven so I'm looking at some starter cos. to begin with. FFE, Swift, etc. who have a school. Any thoughts?

There is something about driving a truck that is "just fun". I did the Community College Truck School route since it was paid for by unemployment. Then it was to a concrete mixer, end dump and now flat bed, all local. On occasion we get out of town for a couple of days, but mostly local, all good. I have worked with a number of guys that drive and have not done OTR, so it can be done.
