I would actually like to do the community college route as there is a really good one only about 20 mins from me. However, I don't have the money to pay for it. I've checked into companies that have tuition reimbursements and then those who have full blown schools.
What do you like about trucking?

Personally I would just go for the company schooling if I were in your current position. You can get going for no money upfront and start making money right away. Yes you have to sign a contract with a company but I would rather do that then sign a contract with the government or a bank. Plus as long as you pass your tests you have a job. The biggest difference would be home time. If you go to a community college or something nearby then you will be home every day. Would cost you $6000 but you would be home. If you go through a company you will be gone for the length of school then training. Not really that bad and you would have to get used to being gone from home anyway.

I went with Swift and used their training. Perfect? No. But I have yet to have an issue that makes me regret my choice. Many different experiences from many different people. I too came from a business background and just used the same tools that I used making decisions in my former career. Gather information, weigh out the pros and cons, make a decision and just hope I was right...want2btruckin Thanks this. -
