What do you like about trucking?

I enjoy the solitude. Its fun, its pretty easy for the most part. I like staying out 10-16 weeks at a time. I hope I can do this for a long time. I think it helps to have a rambling spirit.

 

When I was a young man what I really enjoyed about trucking was being able to look
down in to the cars below.
Saw some really entertaining sights if you know what I mean.

 

Youre not too old to look are you?

 

Not to old to look.
I just don't drive much anymore.
Also it would look bad if I quickly changed from my driving glasses to my ogling glasses every time I hit traffic.

 

1. Driving
2. Not being grouped with coworkers when it comes to bosses complaining about stuff not getting done. You do your job and everything is fine. Worked at too many factories that the whole area was yelled at for lack of production even though you were doing your job just fine. I hate being grouped in with lazy people. If coworker Trucker Joe-Bob doesn't do his job, it's my bosses problem, not mine.

 

Some of the things that I have enjoyed are getting to see parts of this beautiful country that I have never seen. Watching the entire growing season for the crops. Going into the steel mills at night and watching the glowing pots of molten steel.
The fact that once I deliver my load and get my signature on the paper, my responsibility is complete except for sending in my paperwork.
On the down side, I miss not being at home every night for dinner and being away from the property that I dearly love.
But, I may have lost it all if not for this job, so it all evens out.
The nice thing about trucking is that there are a lot of different ways that you can go. I chose flatbeds and thoroughly love the hard work and challenge.

 

..it's better than working retail.
