    <dials Dispatcher's cell phone after hours>

    <phone rings>

    Dispatcher: Yeah Ray?

    Me: What trailer did you tell me to take to ****

    Dispatcher: What do you want me to do? Look it up in the bar's computer? 53206!

    Me: Ok thanks!

    Dispatcher: <click>

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    <phone rings>

    Me: Hello?

    Dispatcher: What trailer did I tell you to take?

    Me: Ummm.....48157??

    Dispatcher: Ok bye...<click>

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Or how about this gem:

    <phone rings>

    Me: Hello?

    Dispatcher: <click> "hold" music plays in background

    One of these days I'm gonna dial his extension from the break room and put HIM on hold. :biggrin_25519:

    More funny conversations will be posted as they occur...

    When your dispatcher calls, just pick up the phone and say "Thank you for calling truck (your truck number). All representatives are currently busy. Please hold and someone will be with you shortly. Your call is 3rd in line."

    LMAO!! I once put my husband's boss on hold!! I was talking to a shipper, a reciever, and my father.. and the Boss called.. this is man unaccustomed to having to wait.. he was laughing when I got back to him "Leave it to Bonnie to put me on hold!" But then, he treated me more like a favored neice than a driver's wife.

    I havent read all the posts to see if its covered but dont give me a 1000 mile run & tell me it has to be there in 10 hours.... (well you know what I mean). Thats totally impossible. Then tell me, "Well, its gotta be done"!

    See? This is the kind of HUMAN BEING we need in all the trucking companies! A dispatcher that cares about his/her fellow peeps . . .you have a very keen and accurate sense of good relations . . .and really, it is usually something so simple and cost free as well!
    Good manners! Respect, mindfullness,consideration etc. it does bring about a more healthy relationship.
    I always like to use the analogy of the garden . . .that is,we reap what we plant . . plant care and respect and love and good things-then, this is what you will get in return .. and it works better this way . . . not perfectly as we ARE talking about humans, but it does work better . . .The dispatchers who don't embrace this wisdom, well, it shows . . . .a rather "ugly" face . . .same goes for drivers the other way . .

    when I hired my dispatcher the first requirement was they had to have seat time over the road , in otherwords you had to do our job ( being a tankerman ) I learned a long time ago the best dispatcher is one who has been there . , when My dispatcher quit due politics from the company I leased out to ,they had hired a college boy dipatcher , he had a hard enough time driving his car, yet alone dispatching tankers , but the lessor put him in charge , needless to say with in 2 weeks I had almost all 10 of my drivers threatening me to quit , and on one occassion had him say something to me over the phone , not realizing who I was ( the fleet owner ) , needless he got his but dragged into the big office , and told them fire him , or loose 10 trucks and about 35 accounts . he was gone friday , and I hired my own guy to replace the desk driver ..who was another former driver . and one thing I always told them screw or lie to them and they will get even with you . drivers are very revengeful and devious , like the night they filled his trash can up with fish from one of the food processers we delivered too , it took 4 weeks for that office to smell right .. :biggrin_25521:

    oh I forgot to mention , the first question asked by dispatch every day on the morning location call ( I like to see how everything is moving ) is how many hours as of last night and what was your start time , so we could keep a running log on hours for them , the other was the dryboard in the dipatch office with time off schedules and Pm schedules so we could route them to the shop or appointments , and even if its a morning appointment , don't make arangements for them to work at all that day ( unless they call and ask and we ussually had them preload for another driver) and if they don't call by 5 pm call them and see if they are Ok , but ussually my guys clled as soon as they got done with the doctor to let us know weather or not to schedule them for thenxt day , and never over book looads !!!!! unless you are willing to deliver them yourself ! I lost alot of customers that way , easier to tell them I am booked out and called them after a load canceled to replace it , usually if a load cancelled out the shipper had something for us to fill in because of my practice of doing this .

    Grumppy Thanks this.
