Just curious how different people responds to brokers when they say this is all we got in this load or I got other carriers that will move it for $xxx.xx all day long and never complain about the rate. I work for an owner operator and book my own freight sometimes. I am learning a lot about the non driving part of the business, just looking for tricks of the trade when negotiating rates. I have figured out sometimes you can't say only no but He'll No to rate.
what do you say when the broker says that's all I have in it?

Getting all snarky is tiresome. You know they have heard it all same as you have if you've ever spent any time talking with them. Two standard replies. That's nice - when you can meet my price give me a call back. If it's been a long day - then go load their truck! If it has been a REALLY long day *click*.
No point in practicing this in front of a mirror. It gets so old the simpler and quicker you can get rid of someone wasting your time the better. What's funny is sometimes after the "abuse" of an outright *click* they will call you back. That's when you've got a real desperado on your hands lol.Cummimgs Trucking LLC, buck35043, KeithT1967 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sometimes I dont even make an offer. I just say we are'nt even in the same ball park and I move on. Being in Florida when they say thats all they have in it I know its not true but I also know they are moving the loads at that rate so I move on and Ill watch that load disappear from the load board because someone said "Ok I can do it for that rate".

I always just say" thanks, I'll pass on it" and if I am somewhat interested I say " I will call you back if I dont find anything better". If I really am interested I usually get another 10% out of them, but nothing more really, because I book in advance and never really wait for last minute freight.

First we all know THEY don't have anything in to it. IT's not their freight. Either they move it or someone else does.
If the rate is not even close to what I deserve. I give them my price and then say I'll run empty instead. Thanks have a nice day.
That load usually is not the only load in an area. -
It is does not matter what you are going to say to the broker - the bottom line is what do you need to move it and what broker ready to pay....It is always better to say "thank you, I will keep you in mind " than tell him he is ####### and tell him that nobody will do that for this rate. Don't shut the door what you probably need to open again. My preference is stay out of cheap freight -It is never work.

"No thanks I'll pass, you take care". Hang the phone up and on to the next one.
silver dollar and buck35043 Thank this. -
this is a business and like other businesses who set their rates based on their needs, I set my own rates based on my need. if the customer doesn't like it, that's their problem.
