All I care about is the inside of the truck. I could care less what the outside looks like.

Im used seeing the crappiest of the crappy on the jersey tp. Blown tires, one of the twist locks not set right and usually the guy pulling it is a o/o with more invested in his cb than his rig. Not to mention one is blowing by you at 75-80 while you are stuck behind one doing 45. I know companies like jb and schiender are using them alot more and there chassies dont seem to be too bad but the ones coming outta the port are just plain junk.

You should get a Gov job. Your attitude would go far. They know more about making money, running business, and balancing budgets than all of us working folks. Don't they. Bigger is NOT better. Fleets do look for better mileage,, but their main concern is cost. Don't believe all the hype. A well tuned hood with a decent driver can match or get close to areos. And they are NOT easier to repair. Most are much harder to get to. Try running the over head on one sometime. 1/3 of the engine is wedged in there tight as Hell. And the resale down the road is much more on a hood if well maintained.

Comparing a government agency with no inclination to make a profit to a private company in an industry that is notoriously profit driven.......yeah that is an apt comparison

Is that all you got???? You even a driver? You didn't comment on 90% of the post. How many overheads you run on diesel. Even know what that is? Try one on any motor shoved into an areo. Ever shopped for a used truck? Even have a CDL? If you're going to critique than bring something to the table.

No I'm not a trucker at this point. That is the reason why I haven't commented on any of the truck related stuff. I commented on the comparing the govt to a privately owned entity because there is absolutely no comparison whatsoever.....I don't need a CDL to know that.

Go to work for CR ENGLAND, Stevens, or any of the other rat outfits. There TOP MEN are not so sharp. Now you talk about UPS, FedEx, Wal Mart they do hire people to research who know what they are doing. That does not change the fact that a properly set up long hood will in the long run cost no more than an areo. WalMart here in TX has been buying lots of Petes and getting fewer Freightliner and Internationals. They are 386s. An areo but not as bad as others and much better built. A small fleet who are going to run their equipment longer and then want larger trade in will usually do better with long hood. Big good fleets get rid of them every 3 yrs or so. They have depreciated them and don't care about value so much. There is place for both. Another thing in ride. A lot of OOs ride back and forth across the country for weeks. A long wheel base gives a much more pleasant ride. At the cost of tight handling of course. It's just like everything else in life. Every choice is a trade off of something.:biggrin_25525:

Anything that will save fuel is a good thing because fuel is the biggest expense....Long hoods are prestigeous but not very practical from a business standpoint, they cause more wind drag & waste fuel down the sh!tter..

For me who got my roots in Europe, American true truck is not Volvo looking but long nose, two muffler exhaust by the doors. That is dream. We can easy compare another think - motorbike. You got to have Harley Davidson not Honda. True American way
