In December you will not be able to edit drive time at all. Once it's in, it's stuck. Period.
What do you think will happen after the ELDs kick in?

At least on duty and other status' will be still be allowed to be edited. Many times, I have gone to ON DUTY and forgot to switch to OFF DUTY. Especially when going home. I just want to get out of the truck I have been stuck in all week. When it comes time to take off again, I find that the Elog is still ON DUTY. I have to then switch to OFF DUTY and then edit the log to show I was off duty the entire time at home. A PITA, but at least it can be changed. The new ELD mandate doesn't restrict editing such things.

Yeah, that sort of playing fast and loose with things will no longer be an option.

Omnitracs has not allowed editing of drive time for as long as I'm aware of. I guess the guys who've been using "faux eLogs" like they were a game are going to be in for a reality shock at some point pretty soon.
UsualSuspect and Tb0n3 Thank this. -
I am friends with a grain company driver and he is now using e logs so they can get used to them ( small Canadian company running northern states ) and in his own words he is now working half a day extra for the same wages. Now they never ran outlaw ....just squeezing the hrs as you do. So I asked him what is the problem .................you arrive at an elevator at night to unload the next morning behind 4trucks half an hr a truck so 2 hrs ( before he wouldn't start the logbook until he was in the elevator to unload) but due to his elog it records him moving along( some people say it doesn't record if you drive slow but his one does).. so off to the next farm/elevator its the same again instead of squeezing the hrs again its recording that's 4hrs ish gone..and times 2 for a week ...yes its not legal what they did but he always had his 10 off as boss never pushed them to break the law. on speaking to other friends that run south nearly all off them are looking for other work that keeps them up north as they all think parking is going to be at a premium and a few think some truckstops will start charging to book a parking stall for the night ..

Most (not all) company ELD drivers are sissies. I observed this working on the inside of a trucking company.
Many won't run at night, refuse to flip their clocks, do split berths and are obsessed with getting a good spot to park at the mega truckstop before the sun goes down. In doing so, cut their potential revenue production way down.
My sense is it's going to be good eatin' for owner operators (in spite of ELD) who know how to run and are willing to do what needs to be done to get those loads picked up and delivered on time.
Most of the brokers I deal with can't stand dealing with megas, the ontime performance with most of them is horrible.
I'm seeing a significantly marked increase in rates already on the spot market on my lane and I'm quick to remind these brokers what's coming in December.Last edited: Jun 25, 2017
