Ding Ding Ding..... we have a winner! The truck manufacturers take bids from oil suppliers and the lowest bid wins.
I'll toss another one out. The engine in my new ride was filled with Northland brand HDEO when I got it. All the big name brands lost out on that one.
what do you use for filters?

I don't believe I said that. The brand of commercial truck filters I mentioned are identical though. Like I stated, get one of each I mentioned that are equal and cut them open. Surprise, surprise, surprise. If you check Napa and Wix parts numbers, they are the same except for one number. I have seen several cutaways of the oil filters I mentioned, side by side, and there may be a minor difference, but you would sure have to know what you are looking for. They looked identical in every detail including stacked discs at the bottom of them, same pleated material, and same oil port holes. I admit, I was looking at the filters for the ISX and they were the same in every detail. It would be natural to assume that a filter for a Detroit might not be identical as one for an ISX. But when the filters are compared, side by side, for the same engine, they are identical. At least among the brands I mentioned. I am have no clue about XYZ brand filters.

Wix when I can get them ( Napa the same ) and Baldwin from the lube house running Mystic JT8 15w50 in the dog. Dog seems to like the stuff. Use about a gallon every 10k vs 2-3 on Rotella. Dump the old stuff in the fuel and send it out the stack. ( ahm an old Yamaha driver...)
Gonna have to quit that good stuff soon though. Dog has 75lbs oil pressure when cold on this stuff in the summer, can't imagine the number at 40 deg.
Do air every 2 mos. because of conditions and use Fleetguard. There's a filter place a few miles away that washes air filters. A const. co. I know does this so I'm thinking the same for me....dunno yet. -
What I get from the dealer.....detroit oil filters(parts guy told me that are made by donaldson), fleetguard for fuel, and donaldson for the air. Also, run delvac as far as oil is concerned, but that is a wally world item. The looks I get when I'm pushing out a shopping cart full. Cant beat their price on it.......13$ a gallon considering the local parts stores sell it for 18$ and then freightliner sells it in the same exact bottle minus a detroit logo on it instead of the delvac one for 22$.
