I also use it when doing my pre-trip. Yes, I actually do a pre-trip. I push the red knob in to charge the trailer air before my first walk around the rig so I can hear if I have any air leaks. Then hit the trolley brake to charge the service brakes and do a second walk around and check again for air leaks as well as see if my brake lights are working.Dannyku, TripleSix, Flat Earth Trucker and 4 others Thank this.

I may walk around mt set two or three times before I leave. Sometimes stop at first rest area and do it again.
kemosabi49 and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
Company brake... $$$$

The reason the Johnson bar and other items such as curb windows, vent windows, kick vents, sleeper doors were removed was to cheapen the trucks especially for the mega carriers. I even see the cab visor is being deleted now. Not to mention the majority of gauges on the instrument panel.. but then again the majority of drivers don’t have a clue what a turbo boost or a exhaust temp is.
Dannyku, striker, Canadianhauler21 and 13 others Thank this. -
nope... pulling the red WILL NOT tell you if you have a air leak on the service side..TripleSix and RockinChair Thank this.

tell me how pulling the red (cutting all air to the trailer) will tell you the BLUE gladhand is leaking...? Or any other part of the SERVICE side is leaking....Pamela1990 Thanks this.

Of the very few Tractors over the Years that I saw such Valve,
It remained unused except maybe for a GoodliAir Smelly Placement that looked like a Pine Tree on a string, availed in multi-colored units, seemingly representing the United Nations of GoodliAir Smelly Placements!!
I never had "Weird Air Leaks" that weren't fixed with a New Plastic or Rubber Glad Hand Gasket, New Air Line, Brake Chamber, Turbo, Engine, Newer/Better/Faster Truck.

On a related note, the maintenance department at one of the companies I worked for, told me that using the trolley valve to do a trailer tug test can actually "overtorque" (not sure the actual words used) the drum brakes and actually cause the brake shoes to eventually deadjust and cause the pads to rub against the drum. At least that's what they told me after driving through a small town with smokey brakes.
Anyone ever heard anything like that? -
I use my hand valve at least once a day at full application. Never had an issue.flood, jamespmack and MACK E-6 Thank this.
