There's still a few in far northern California but they're getting harder to find every year.:angry3:

What makes you think owner operators(not mega lease) net <=$1,500 a week?

I'm never referring to company lease when I use "owner". I know that is common, though...

It gets you no where, they don’t pay anything, they want you in a truck for weeks on end, and they don’t teach you how to actually drive the truck,

    don’t do megas

A few things about megas not mentioned here:

    1. A 25 year old in a cubical sets your appointments and it's forced dispatch. Sometimes the pickup will be late when you get it... There is no trip planning..

    2. You pull over to take a shower you're getting phone calls asking why you're sitting after ten minutes..

    3. You argue with anything you'll be threatened with abandonment, and start getting layovers and/or the worst loads

    4. OTR is easier than running 2-11 loads a day in city traffic(not just P&D either).. Driving the Midwest and planning 800-2800 mile loads is probably the easiest thing to do in this industry; it's what companies use to have trainees do; You'll be amazed how many people think someone running in Atlanta or the North East every day just can't handle big time OTR

With 10 years of experience and a good safety record why would you even consider a mega carrier?

When times are tough, they have the freight and generally send the experienced guys on the long runs and let the rookies get the short hauls, maybe?
