what does it mean when a job posting says something like $23.25/hr. guaranteed?

I think they'd rather make more money than less. After all, they became megas somehow. My guess is they try to dispatch each driver within his perceived limitations. At my starter company I was good for 2400-2800 miles a week every week, but my trainer pretty much refused to deliver on time and was lucky to get 1500 miles a week. I wouldn't be surprised to learn he was given fake delivery times two days ahead of actual in the hope he'd make it on time.

My skewed perspective is most likely derived from all the office "people" that can't manage to get the dispatchers and driver managers the correct mix of freight for the efficient utilization of drivers in the operation.

Those are the ones that become administrative overhead/ a waste of a paycheck in my not very humble opinion.

if YOU accept a trucking job, that pays YOU $10.00 per hour, you will be ticked off that a burger flipper is getting paid $15.00 per hour. and i can assure YOU that YOU will work your tail off for that lousy $10.00 per hour.

Ya but efficiency is a matter of perspective. Some customers are higher priority than others. Efficiently servicing the high priority contracts might not match perfectly with a cpm driver's version of an efficient week.

Plus there is the passive-aggression factor. In a nation as narcissistic as ours, dispatch will often be inclined to make things difficult for "noisy" drivers, and do it in such a way that it can be plausibly denied as merely being the result of fate, or chance, or some unidentified person somewhere up the food chain. In other words, cause problems for you in such a way that you do not have a specific person you can blame. Everybody hides behind everybody else, while the stupidity goes on and on.

Yup. If you rack up killer miles then you get the miles pay. If you sit in beltway traffic all week then you get the hourly.

Next question becomes what counts as an hour? If you sit for three days waiting for your next dispatch, how many hours worked is that?

I found the best way to respond to the passive aggression is to claim it's a bonus. For example, if they tell you there's a delay, instead of expressing disappointment say "Excellent! Time for videogame marathon!" Or if they just finished leaving you sitting for awhile and sent you overdue dispatch, instead of saying "It''s about time!" try something like "####, I was rocking this videogame!"

In other words, if they think you're enjoying the downtime, they'll interrupt it the only way they can - with dispatches. That is, IF what you're dealing with is passive aggression. But, if the delays are legit, then you'll see no change in anything.

I used to do something similar with receivers....... "Just so I know what dvd to put in. Are we talking an hour series episode, A movie, or a trilogy/marathon?"

Takes the stigma/hate down a bunch for everybody since you are just asking for guidance
