I live in the US. I'm currently leased to a US carrier and go to Ontario some what often. I briefly looked into going into Ontario with my own authority. I was quoted about $4-5k to have it all done for me. It sounded somewhat involved. I would shop around though. I know you will need provincial authority and ON requires a Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR). Also need to get setup for the PARS and PAPS bar codes. Your IRP would need to include the province(s). I don't know what insurance would be required.

    EZX1100 Thanks this.

I only know BC and Yukon since I run through there all the time. As a through freighter I have to fill out an Intransit Manifest. In BC your insurance has to file with ICBC for financial responsibility since you are an out of Province commercial vehicle. You will have to have BC on your cab card. If you have a truck with a wheelbase longer than 244" you will have to purchase an over length permit for the wheelbase. Which costs $30.00 and is good for 30 days.

In the Yukon you will have to buy a trip and fuel permit since they are not part of the IRP and IFTA or you can post a fuel bond and get a plate. Fuel bond is $300.00 and the plate runs about $1200.00 per year depending on weight you will license. The fuel and trip permit run about $200.00 if you run up to Alaska and back loaded both ways.
