Sometimes that what they need to think.
I rarely have to work the book so it shows me being legal after driving 17 hours. But that's only when I load at Steel Dynamics in Roanoak.
Just go off duty when your in that 10-18 truck line up, 2-4 hours to load each. Mainly cause they goof around and BS. -
Running hard is how you run before you find out what legal liability is.

My question is: Why run hard? Companies want you to think that running hard (more miles) is the way to make more money. And because they pay by the mile, they have drivers brainwashed into this mentality. More miles, more miles, more miles is all I see on recruiting signs on the back of trucks. I'd rather see More money, more money, more money on them. Wish I could remember which O/O here on TTR posted a picture of the back of his cab with the slogan 'Less Miles, More Money'. I share that philosophy.

Running hard means no brks or very little short brks and get right back on the road.Running hard means use up all your available hrs and to many means more hrs then they have. Some will run 800 miles a day just don't get caught. No way you can log that legal. There is money to be made out here and you can do it legal.Of course your not going to make the money if you're a truck stop hero.If you run legally hard, you'll have one happy dispatcher and company and you'll be the one likely to get more miles.

200 something miles a day for me.

Depends on how I feel that week. But to me it means instead of using your full 14 a day I use less of that as possible at the most driving time. If you drive straight 11 and only stop to kick a tire or fuel for 15 minutes then you can use only 12 hours a day that means that after you 10 hour break you are driving again 2 hours sooner then if you used your 14. There is more tricks you can use if you paper log and stay legal at the the same time that you can not get away with on an E-Log. When I am at a shipper loading or unloading it only costs me 15 minutes of on duty time the rest I log as off duty time. It does eat into your 14 but at the end of a hard week every hour saved counts.....

Embrace the loose leaf log book......and if you don't have that option then I'm afraid running hard is out of the question. I know that in a matter of time everyone will be paperless, until then burn that road up.
It's not the poplar opinion but I drive......Period! When I'm tired I sleep...just for a bit then I drive. I manage my time around my appointments, if it's firm I have a little flexibility....if it's fcfs then I'm on it. I drive 4500 a week...every week so I'm pretty played out when I get home.
I know.....folks think I may be wrong to run how I want....it's free will....besides, most judgmental ones are the poor cats strapped to a 62 mph dog, QC jammed up their backside being ordered around by self serving folks who could care less about them or their lively hood.
Ride free and live free.......hrdman2luv Thanks this. -
"Running Hard" means one is either gasping for air/or probably breaking the law.
