to me, 10 hrs of driving is running pretty hard. By the time I deal with loading/unloading and get 10 hrs road time, my 14 is about burned up anyway. But, I only stop to use the restroom, fuel or grab coffee once I start rolling. I take my meals, do paperwork or route planning while being loaded or on my 10 break. Since I drive 8 axles, that gets me between 450-550 miles a day, terrian and load dependent.
What does running hard mean to you?

Running hard, to me, is when you have no time to take more than a 10 hour break, and have no time during the day to take any kind of break other than to stop and use the restroom, fuel and grab a bite to eat.
I know truck driving is a profession where you're pretty much always on the job, and I will run a lot of miles, and with this current job I do, 3,550 miles every week, same run, but I like to take a little longer than a 10 hour break. In a 10 hour break, spend 1/2 hour finishing logbook, using restroom, grabbing dinner, then half hour in the morning to get ready for the day, and then 1 hour actually spending leisure time at this website, and then another hour to try to fall asleep, that leaves me with 7 hours of sleep. And one day off per week.
If they end up putting an electronic logbook in my truck, I'd never get a 34 hour restart. I would have to take a whole week off. -
Some guys will stop after running 500 miles rather than hitting 650 plus. Look at it like this. Let's say with traffic, and other factors, you average 60 mph. You drive for 11 hours, that's 660 miles. To me, driving hard is getting as close to that 660 as I can within the law. Settling for 500 when you can knock out 600+ makes a big difference at the end of the year.

When I told a broker that I drive a team and then drove 1230 miles solo in 22 hrs. Other than that 1000 m a day is plenty. Id say keep it steady but not t0o high to get burnt out. Good diet, sleep, and 30 min of exercise are mandatory

And in the world we live in, god forbid somebody hits YOU, they WILL dig deep and Find someplace you messed up your logs and you will be in prison. Worth it? Not bashing you personally, just to me it doesnt seem worth it. I make a good living, run 100% legal and dont work for a micromanaging 62mph qualcomm using company.

In the last 6 weeks I have been from Winnipeg to Los Angeles , Los Angeles to Calgary , Calgary to Los Angeles, los Angeles to Regina , Regina to Mecca , Mecca to Bakersfield to Montreal , Montreal to Winnipeg ( didn't see the house on the way through either) Winnipeg to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to Saskatoon, Saskatoon to Toledo , Toledo to Santa Maria and tommorow I will head back to Regina then to Winnipeg to be home for my birthday. I believe it's in the vicinity of 17,000 miles. Does that qualify as running hard? If it doesnt then I am out as I can't go any harder than that, I am done and need a break for a few days.
