We'd all love that. But that can't be the case for everyone.

But with that said, even if everyone was pulling $3 per mile loads, ever day of every week, there'd still be weeks that I'd work harder and longer than I was supposed to. Just to get more. It's not greed. It's just knowing that tomorrow, it might not be there to get.

Nowadays, with the electronic logs, you really can't run hard. You're trapped. But, in the days of paper logs(which I am still on, luckily, for now), it means/meant you run as many miles as you want. You see, drivers like myself came out on the road as a means to make money; we didn't come out on the road because we thought the sleeper berth was a hotel room or RV, or because we wanted to play tourist, or because we were too lazy to get up and go to work in the morning, so we thought we'd goof off in a truck all day and then drink beer and party at some juke joint out on the road all night. The only way to make money is to run the truck, ergo, running hard means being greedy(ambitious) and getting as many miles as you can and then going home and resting a bit and then go back out and do it again. But, nowadays, "running hard" is just a tactic used by companies to brainwash drivers into not taking any home time, because they know that they're only going to run you 2400 miles per week regardless of how eager you are to work.

...and what I just said is the undeniable truth.

I have never understood this. You have to be desperate to hang out at a truck stop. What're you gonna do, watch reruns of Law and Order?

Since, obviously, you're a college football fan, I will respond to this. I remember back in 1998, when I was a rookie, and it was apparent that I was going to miss some college football games, I got up on the first football saturday of the fall at like 4am and ran as hard as I could, to get a bunch of miles off, and then I thought I would stop and watch some ball games at the truck stop. When I went inside the truck stops and saw drivers watching reruns of "Gunsmoke" I knew it was going to be a hard road. Thankfully, I am home on Saturdays, nowadays, and it wouldn't be that bad with the smartphones apps and satellite radio, if I were still out on Saturdays.

Most of what you mentioned is just doing your job. Which isn't running hard. At least not to me anyways. But as I stated before, everyone is different.
