Wanted to add one more thing earlier but customer came out and told me I was empty, so I finished that thought up and posted it.
Some of the flashlight brands I recommend are 4sevens, Fenix, EagleTac, and Pelican. For example, you can get a Fenix E21 that had 150 lums and only uses 2AA batteries for less than $37 or an EagleTac P20A2 for less than $60.
I am not fond of the flashlights that use CR123s due to those batteries not being commonly available should you need them when you are in BFE. With a light that uses AA or AAA, even if you don't have a recharger, you are never too far from a supply of batteries.
The only thing that a 4-6 D cell Maglite is better than those just mentioned, is the Maglite, due to it's length, weight, and girth, is being a weapon. That being said, a crowbar makes a better weapon and you don't have to worry about knife or firearms laws.
Another electronic item that, in my opinion, is third on the list of most useful items to have (behind cell phone and gps) is a battery-powered leaf blower. Several of our drivers have them and when it comes to sweeping out a dry van, those things cannot be beat. Leave one (1) trailer door closed and blow all of the debris to the closed side. Grab your wisk broom (you have one of those, right?) and sweep it into a small trash bag. Takes a couple of minutes and get the trailer nice and clean.
One charge of the battery can do 2-3 trailers. All of our trucks are equipped with a Thermo King or Carrier APU so recharging the leaf blower is not an issue.
You can thank me later. -
walmart $40 stanley 1,000,000 cp led rechargable spotlite and it's small enough to fit in a cup holder
unlike a flashlite a maglite woun't break if you drop it in water and it'd handier than a a crowbar -
i had anthor thought on this, i would get a hand cranked flashlight too, just for a backup, i too use the leaf blower works like like a charm, well almost, i back into the dock, they unload my white waste paper bales, loose piles of waste paper everywhere, fired up the leaf blower, looked like a white snowstorm in July , shove it all in the dumpster behind the trailer, but the trailer was clean, but made a note too myself wear a dust mask, that stuff was nasty in the nose.
