Notchpeak, I can say this, I love the layout of my Star 4900. Lots of room inside, very quiet, no squeaks or rattles, awesome smooth ride and handles very good. I love the dash layout. Lots of room for every gauge you can think of. Good switch work. Awesome stereo. And I really like the Data Star compared to most in-dash info displays. I really want to love this truck if it wasn't for the shoddy build quality issues it came with. Not acceptable considering they have "premium" pricing.
I have recently seen a lot of lemons come out of their factory, and I have friends that bought them and had no issues? Our 2003 High rise float tractor was built much better with better quality components.
I would buy another though.
We also have a 2012 Coronado SD122 and it is a really nice truck too. Had better build quality. It is also very quiet, smooth riding and comfy. The dash info display sucks though. Confusing to use. All the issues we had with that truck were Cummins ISX failures.
Out of all the new engines, I prefer the Detroit's. Mine has been bulletproof, other than emission sensor failures. But no hard parts have been touched. It has way more torque down low compared to our ISX600, despite it being only a 505/1650. They both get the same fuel mileage. But I like how the Detroit pulls like an old Cat down low.
I have a few friends with MP8 and MP10 Mack's and they have been working very well also.
The most problems I see at my dealers are Cummins and Maxxforce. Don't have any Paccars around here.
What engine with DEF is having the least amount of problems?

Well, in my case yes....but that's only two trucks. Seems like it's almost a coin toss when it comes to buying a new truck. Some are built right, but for some reason it's just not consistent.
I have a few friends that are mechanics at dealers and I hear the same from them, seems to be less issues with the DD Detroit's. Plus they seems to give less hassle with warranty issues than Cummins. At least in my town anyway.
There are a couple fleets up north of me that run Paccar MX500's and they are happy with them. But I hear they are having problems with camshafts. But they say they pull well and are good on fuel. They are used as dump trucks, and tractors pulling logs and 5 axle acid tankers.
But I don't have any Paccar dealers around me, so even dealers I spoke to said they wouldn't sell me a truck with a Paccar for that reason.
It's too bad, because I'd like to try a T-880.Notchpeak Thanks this. -

Not to sidetrack the thread.....but have you ever looked at their compact wheel loaders, then at the comparable new Kubota R630? I almost wonder if they are built in the same factory, because they sure look similar. -
Notchpeak Thanks this.
