not sure what you mean by that. But in the end im weighing my options and might still go new. A new truck comes with SO much more in the ways of comfort and control plus the truck I have specd out is made to do what I want, while this thing I would just be hoping for the best. Plus shes old and boring. I love my classic trucks, but a fl60 is not my ideal classic truck lol. Ima still look into it further but I think im going to stick with rolling the dice on a brand new truck. Lord we all know they can be a hit or miss with problems.
KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
I was always a big one for fixing what you have, BUT, I have learned that the down time to do a big swap will take away from you putting the truck to work right away, as a new truck would be turn key ready to go?
-
I just remembered something. Back in ‘03 when we ordered the second FL60. The salesman had mentioned to us that the 8.3 cummins at 325 hp was available special order with a ten speed. We thought about it. But it was almost 10 grand more. I have no idea if that woulda required a raised cab and the taller grill of the FL 80 but at the time didnt sound like it.
-
Ah thats where you lost me. I don't own the FL. Its listed for sale just down the road from me and I was considering getting it for its low miles. Either way if I were do this or a brand new truck, I would be waiting (new truck is a special order). But thats not a big deal as I still have work to fill that time.
yeah I started looking for other FL's for sale and all the 60s and 70s came with the 5.7 cummins or the 3226 cat. The fl80 came with those as well as the 8.3. If it had the 8.3, then you can see the hood and cab was raised up probably about 6 inches. I couldn't find a single FL with the 8.3 and the regular hood and cab.KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this. -
Yeah. I know what your talking about on the hood and cab thing. I always thought that made them look better. But at the time he made no mention of cab height or a different hood with a FL60 emblem on it. It sounded like it was gonna be a standard looking 60.
Maybe if we did order it it woulda been a “one of a kind” lol.
Makes me wonder -

see thats the thing were missing these days. Yeah in the big truck market we still have the ability to really build what ever we want, but we are becoming more and more limited. There was a time where you could say "I want this, with this, and also that". Now we are down to, "Well its either this or that". So for building that truck back in the early 2000's you may have been able to make a near one of a kind FL. Would have been the light duty FL with a big engine and trans lol.
SmallPackage Thanks this. -
No ,I'm not sure at all. The original question was what engine would you use. The m11 is my first choice IF it will fit.KANSAS TRANSIT said: ↑For the people suggesting M11, Are you "sure" you can even shoehorn an M11 into an FL60???Click to expand...KANSAS TRANSIT Thanks this.

dont even get me started on the M2. I drove one for 3 years and I am burnt out of it. Had the mercedess MBE 900 in it and although it was a good little truck, I just hatted how bland the dash was. Did not feel like a truck to me. Im glad they are offering the DD8 in them now since the new DD's seem to be getting a good rep, but they gotta update the cab. It screems 2003 in 2020.KANSAS TRANSIT said: ↑Ok, now I goycha, I thought you owned it, in that case I would go new, BTW the new freightliner M2 106 is available with a new DD8 350hp/1050tq, suppose to be a great little motor, and its cheaper to spec then the Cummins 8.9 and has better service intervals.Click to expand...
the new truck Im building is the international HV with the Cummins L9 and a 10 speed. Ive always been skeptical with navistar but Ive agreed to take a chance now that they offer a cummins line up. And my current company has been running the newer LT OTR tractors for some time now and so far haven't had many issues. few year back my last rig was a 2007 international 4300. She was plagued by the DT466 and electrical issues. Love the way the truck drove, and looked but my god it was always broken.
