Single axle is not synonymous with steer axle. A single axle may be on the trailer and have 2 sets of duals with a maximum weight limit on the Federal Interstate system of 20,000 pounds. A steer axle, which has only 2 tires, is limited by axle and tire rating to well less than the federal single axle weight limit of 20,000 pounds.
What exactly is the steer axle weight limit?

The heavy duty steers have wide tires.
I don't know if that makes em rated for
20 or 14.
We have one truck rated for 14 but it's got standard steer tires. -

I once was using a F-350 and gooseneck with tandem duel wheels I inquired about the axle weights at my local state trooper HQ and was told 20 on single including steer 34 tandem duels

That trooper is out of his mind if he lets a setup like that go loaded that heavy.

The ratings on the tires, if you have G rated tires, 6175 per tire or 12300 total. If you have 16 ply H rated tires, then it is 14,200 lbs. Many tractors require H rated tires as they are over 12,300 lbs in steers.gentleroger and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
