What exactly is the steer axle weight limit?

    I started in the late 80s and back then it was 12,500 on the steers so you had some room to move weight off the drives if the trailer was improperly loaded and couldn't axle out the overage with just sliding the trailer tandems. that being said I've never had to do it and I have no idea if that was changed in the ensuing years

    The door labels I've seen lately say 13 or 14 on the steer. Depending on the truck setup.

    Earlier trucks were 12ish.

    I don't think anyone will stop you weighing 13. Except Oregon.

    On the west coast.

    I used to drive across 2 states scales weighing 13.2 loaded. 2 trips daily.

    The one time i got hassled. I forgot the truck drop axle down.

    20k steer & 20k steerable lift axle with 425/65r22.5 rated at 11,684 lbs each
    52k rears with 12R24.5s rated at 8,047 lbs each
